Linda L. (Smith) Gleason – 75 – of 6 Sheldon Court, Hornell, died Wednesday morning, March 6, 2024 at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on June 27, 1948, she was the daughter of Raymond & Luella (Hoyt) Smith.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Linda attended St. Ann School before graduating from Hornell High School (class of 1966).
Upon graduation, she enrolled in St. James School of X-Ray and pursued a career as an X-Ray Technician. Linda trained at Ithaca Hospital for one year before being hired in the X-Ray Department at Bethesda Community Hospital, a position she held until its closing in 1985.

Following the closing of Bethesda Community, Linda was hired by Dr. Auringer and worked in his office until his retirement.

She spent the latter part of her career in the education field, initially taking a position with Steuben-Allegany BOCES in Bath and then the Hornell City School District. Linda was a beloved and dedicated teacher’s aide for 12 years. She retired in 2010.

Spending time with family was Linda’s greatest joy in life. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and crossword puzzles. A sports enthusiast, Linda could often be found cheering on her children and grandchildren at sporting events, and she loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. She was a self-proclaimed BINGO fanatic!

Linda was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and, most recently,
St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. She was a member of the G. Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy) and the Hornell Elks Lodge.

On July 19, 1969, Linda was married to James L. Gleason who died May 22, 2020 after 50 years of marriage. She was also
predeceased by her infant daughter, Meghan Elizabeth Gleason; her parents, Luella & Raymond Smith; one brother,
Raymond Smith; nephew, Trooper Larry Gleason; brother-in-law, Marv Konz; 2 sisters-in-law, Ann Smith & Eileen Connors.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Bridget (Steve) Minisce of Raleigh, NC and Kate (Chris) Secondo of Hornell; her son, Tim
Gleason of Gaithersburg, MD; grandchildren, Anna Updyke & Scotty Minisce; 2 sisters, Ann Konz & Marilyn Batra; sister-in-law, Judy Smith; brother- and sister-in-law, Larry & Rosemary Gleason; many nieces, nephews, & cousins.

To honor Linda’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family and Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on
Tuesday, March 12th at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Avenue, Hornell, NY. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Linda’s family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to Hornell Alumni Association, PO Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843.

    My sincere condolences to Linda’s family. She was always a very kind and sweet hearted lady from a very early age. She was a classmate who attended our luncheons when able. It was a pleasure ti be involved with the conversations and memories shared. We had many. She will definitely be missed.
