Patricia A. “Pat” Severin – (86) – of Falls Church, VA, formerly of Hornell & Canisteo, died Sunday evening (January 28, 2018) at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA, following a long  illness.

Born in Hornell on June 28, 1931, she was the daughter of Floyd & Helen (Hooper) Egmond.

Pat grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1949).  Following her high school graduation, Pat obtained her Registered Nurse’s License from St. James School of Nursing.  She later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Buffalo and worked for the County of Orleans, NY as a Public Health Nurse.

On September 29, 1956, she was married to Harold “Hal” Severin who survives.  Throughout the years, Pat & Hal and their family resided in many locations.  From 1956 – 1967 they lived in Pinole, CA and from 1967 – 1979 they resided in Brockway, PA where Pat was employed as a registered nurse at DuBois Hospital.  In 1979 they moved to Littleton, CO where Pat resumed working as a registered nurse at Bear Creek Nursing Home.  She retired in 1986.

Following her retirement, Pat & Hal moved to Perrysburg, OH and in 1992 they moved back to the Hornell – Canisteo area where they lived until moving to Tappahannock, VA.  They have lived in Falls Church, VA since 2014.

During her years in Hornell, Pat was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and later St. Ann’s Church.  She loved sewing and quilting and especially loved making beautiful full size quilts, baby blankets and other items which she gave to family & friends.  She also donated many of her creations to charitable organizations.

Pat was preceded in death by her infant brother, Jerry Egmond; 3 sisters, Kay Christiano, Christine Donlon and Monica Wescott.

In addition to her husband, Hal, survivors include 1 son, Michael Severin of Lakewood, CO; 4 daughters, Barbara Severin of Herndon, VA, Monica (Tony) Palombella of Midlothian, VA, Mary (Kevin) O’Brien of Arlington, VA and Theresa Severin of Alexandria, VA; 1 brother, George Egmond of Ellenton, FL; 4 sisters, Mary Gottko of Corning, NY, Ruth (Jerry) Canty of Hornell, Thelma (Bob) Burd of Hornell and Helen Egmond of Avoca; 4 grandchildren, Shyanne Severin, Lily Severin, Laura Palombella and Mark Palombella; 1 great-grandson, Logan Friend; many nieces & nephews.

The family of Patricia A. “Pat” Severin will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church. .  Final interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Marcia Ann Worden – 64 – of 66 Oak St., Hornell, died Saturday evening (January 27, 2018) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Westchester, NY on March 23, 1953, she was the daughter of Anthony P. “Tony” & Dorothy T. (Speciale) Morabito.

Marcia grew up in the Bath – Avoca area and was a graduate of Bath-Haverling High School.  She later earned her Associate’s Degree from Alfred State College.

She was employed for a time at the former Canada Dry Bottling and Elmhurst Dairy in Hornell and also at Alfred State College.

Marcia will be remembered as a kind and caring person who was always mindful of the feelings of others.  She enjoyed taking daily walks throughout the city of Hornell and loved to stop and visit all of her friends at City Hall and send them cards on all of the holidays.  She also enjoyed visiting many stores in the Hornell area and will be missed by her friends at Country Kitchen.

She was married on December 20, 1975 to Terence K. “Terry” Worden who died September 18, 2011.

Surviving are her step-children, Danny Worden, Connie Worden and Cindy Hachtel; her brother, John Morabito of South Carolina; her sister, Michelle Lilly of Bradenton, FL; several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

Nathaniel “Nate” Goodwin – 69 – formerly of 24 Sawyer St. Site, Hornell died January 6th, 2018 at the Taylor Health Care Facility in Bath where he an resided for about 10 months.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 20, 1948, he was the son of Edward & Earline (Hamilton) Goodwin.

Nate was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1967 – 1970 during the Vietnam Conflict.

Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Nate was a self-employed contractor in the Philadelphia area. He resided in Hornell for over 20 years.

In addition to his parents, Nate was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Goodwin and also his sister, Priscilla Nalls.

Surviving are 2 sons, Nathaniel Goodwin of Philadelphia, PA and Eric Goodwin of Broomall, PA; his daughter, Cassandra Mabery of Limerick, PA; his sister, Lucille Goodwin of Philadelphia, PA; 2 brothers, Edward Goodwin and Franklin Goodwin of Colorado; nieces & nephews.

At Nate’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with final interment at the Bath National Cemetery.

David J. Hoyt – 73 – of 44 Catherine St., Hornell, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. James Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on February 22, 1944, he was the son of Charles W. & Ruth Marie (Beier) Hoyt, SR.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Charles W. Hoyt, Jr.

David is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy M. (Evans) Hoyt. Also surviving are three sons, Darin Joseph (Gretchen) Hoyt, Jasin Michael Hoyt, Michael Frederick (Clair) Hoyt; two daughters, Beth Renee (Hoyt) Woodworth and Lynn Marie (Hoyt) Dagastino; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Barbara A. “Barbie” Geyer – 79 – of 111 Thacher St., Hornell died early Friday morning (January 12, 2017) at Elderwood of Hornell following a brief illness.

Born in Lockhaven, PA on August 24, 1938, she was the daughter of Harry & Olive (Swisher) Geyer.

Throughout the years, Barbie resided in several locations, including Pennsylvania & Ohio, and had lived in Hornell for over 10 years.

She enjoyed taking daily walks (long before it was fashionable), working on word puzzles and watching old movies on TV. She also was an animal lover who especially loved dogs & cats.

Barbie occasionally attended services at St. Ann’s Church. She will be remembered as a gentle & kind woman who served as caregiver for family members in their final days.

She was preceded in death by four siblings and also her niece.

Surviving are 1 brother, William (Shirley) Geyer of Pennsylvania; several nieces & nephews including James (Elizabeth McMindes) Burns with whom she resided.

Antoinette M. “Ann” Parlavecchio – 89 – formerly of Hornell, died Sunday evening (December 31, 2017) at the Mercy Center in Rochester, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Hornell on June 30, 1928, she was the daughter of Rosario & Lucy (Salerno) Parlavecchio.

Ann was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1946). She had been employed for many years at the former Corbin Wood Products in Hornell and later at Philips Lighting in Bath.

She had been a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and communicant of St. Ann’s Church. In her younger years, Ann enjoyed bowling and throughout the years was a member of several bowling leagues. She was an avid reader and loved traveling throughout the United States. She also loved rooting for the New York Yankees, New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Rosario & Lucy Parlavecchio; 3 brothers, Anthony “Tony” Parlave, James Parlavecchio and Sam Parlavecchio; 4 sisters, Mary Parlavecchio, Rose Macaluso, Josephine Cipolla and Carmella Parlavecchio.

Surviving are her sister, Rachel Parlavecchio RSM; several nieces & nephews.

Doris M. Beckhorn a resident of Bethany Villages in Horseheads, formerly of Elmira went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday December 23th, 2017.

Born September 9, 1938 in Fabius, NY, she was the daughter of Melville & Doris (Eades) Lang.

Doris was married for 47 years to William J. Beckhorn who died December 22, 2007.

She is survived by her children; Gary Beckhorn (Marion), Wayne Beckhorn, Alan Beckhorn, Gail Beckhorn (Marc), Eileen Best (Tracy), Elaine Hernandez (Rafael), Thomas Beckhorn, Tammy Bennett (Thomas), Stacey Forsyth (Kevin) and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces & nephews.

Casey J. Cameron, Sr. – 59 – of 34 State St., Hornell, died early Saturday morning (December 23, 2017) at Elderwood at Hornell less than 3 years after being diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia.

He was born in Hornell on April 3, 1958 and was the son of Dr. Robert & Bette (Roth) Cameron.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Casey was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1977) and later attended Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred).

Throughout the years, Casey was employed in the Sales/Management departments of several businesses including Radio Shack, U-Haul, CTC Business Machines (Bath, NY) and Thomas Kinney Clothing. In recent years, he was employed at WLEA / WCKR Radio Station in many capacities, including sales representative, sports director, advertising representative and also had his own Radio Talk Show, The 9:10 Local. He retired about three years ago due to ill health.

Casey was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. He was a member of the Hornell Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler, District Deputy and State Vice-President. He was also very active in the running of the Elks Hoop Shoot, Punt, Pass and Kick competition, Bike Rodeo, Annual Youth Fishing Derby and the Elks Golf Tournament. He was also a member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus, the Hornell Association, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Hornell American Legion.

An avid sports fan, Casey loved rooting for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and also the New York Yankees. As a young adult he played in various men’s softball leagues, as well as a men’s flag football league. For many years, he served as a Vince Lombardi Youth Football Coach and also volunteered for decades as a Coach for the Hornell YMCA Sunday School Basketball League, at one time coaching both a boys and a girls team. He was a past board member of the Hornell Dodgers baseball team. He enjoyed attending and covering Induction Day Ceremonies each year at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. in his official capacity as Sports Director at WLEA/WCKR. Through this association, he had the amazing opportunity to meet and interview many of baseball’s biggest sports legends. He was a member of the Hornell Sports Night Committee and was honored earlier this year as the 2017 Sports Night Sportsman of the Year. He was also an avid golfer & fisherman.

In addition to his parents, Casey was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Cameron.

He was married on June 26, 1982 to the former Debra “Debbie” Brewer who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Lyndsey (Michael) Stillman of Hornell; his sons Casey Cameron Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC and Jason Johnson (Shannon Smith) of Cohocton, NY; 2 brothers, Francis “F.C.” Cameron of Chambersburg, PA and Bruce (Ellen Stiffler) Cameron of Chambersburg, PA; 1 grandson, Aiden Miller; several nieces & nephews.

Helen J. Kerr – (91) – formerly of 6 Dogwood St., Bath, NY passed away early Saturday morning (December 16, 2017) at the Steuben Center Nursing Facility in Bath, NY where she had resided for the past 9 months.

Born in Hornell on July 18, 1926, she was the daughter of Ira and Ruth (Hooker) Weaver. She resided in Hornell for her entire life before moving to Bath in 2000.

Helen was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1945). She had been employed for 22 years at Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred).

She enjoyed traveling and had visited many countries and most of the United States. She was an avid reader and collected bells & music boxes as hobbies. Helen was a life member of the Hornell Moose Lodge and Hornell VFW. She was also a member of the CSEA-AFSCME, National Rifle Association & Hornell Alumni Association.

Throughout the years, Helen had volunteered for many organizations such as Bethesda Community Hospital, St. James Hospital, Bath VA Hospital, Campfire, Meals on Wheels, nursing homes, etc.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband (and father of her 10 children) who died in 1988; her son, Jack W. Kerr, Jr. who died June 22, 2017; her “daughter-in-law”, Judy Lewis; 1 sister, Evelyn Weaver Grimaldi; 2 brothers, Earl G. Weaver and Ronald L. Weaver; her sons-in-law, Robert Allaway and Richard Flanagan; her brothers in law, John Grimaldi & Robert Baker; her sister-in- law, Vivian Weaver.

Surviving are her TREASURES, 3 daughters, Lucinda “Cindy” Flanagan of Bath, Elizabeth Allaway of Daphne, AL and Susan (Mark Bell) Potter of Daphne, AL; 6 sons, Greg (Linda) Kerr of Hornell, Stephen Kerr of Bradford, NY, David (Kelly Stedman) Kerr of Bath, Karl (Fran) Kerr of Bath, Daniel (Deb Stanford) Kerr of Hornell and James Kerr of Bath; 1 sister, Doris Baker of Tigard, OK; her sister-in-law, Martha Weaver of Savannah, GA; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Barbara Lee Margeson – 74 – 5567 Cook Hill Rd., Hornell (Town of Hartsville) died Friday, December 15^th, 2017 at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on October 28, 1943, she was the daughter of Theron “Nick” & Betty Jean (Campbell) Knickerbocker.

Barbara grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1962). She was married on June 30^th, 1962 to William I “Bill” Margeson who survives. Throughout the years, Barbara & Bill resided in Hornell-Hartsville area.

She had been employed at the former Mullen Slaughter House for several years and was employed at St. James Mercy Hospital as a cook and also in the laundry department. For many years she worked at Transportation Transit Associates (TTA) as an electrician, installing electrical components and wiring harnesses along with lighting components . She retired in 2008.

Barbara thoroughly enjoyed raising her children and in more recent years loved baby-sitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed rooting for the Buffalo Bills.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Louise Knickerbocker; father-in-law, William J Margeson; her brother-in-law, Paul Starr; and great granddaughter, Hailey Reilly.

In addition to her husband Bill, survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Raymond) France of Hartsville; 3 sons, William I. (Michelle) Margeson Jr. of Hornell, Kevin (Heidi) Margeson of Hartsville and Kelly (Kimberly) Margeson of Hornell; her mother-in-law, Roberta Margeson; 2 sisters, Brenda Starr of Belmont and Deborah (Joseph) D’Agostino of Forestville; 7 grandchildren, Ashley (Gregory) Gibson, Amanda (Tyler Murphy) Margeson, Danielle (Shawn) Reilly, Adam Margeson, Kyle Margeson, Kaiden Margeson and Keaton Shaut; 3 great-grandchildren, Bentley Howe, Peyton Gibson and Michael Reilly; several nieces and nephews; and also her extended grandchildren Dylan Wentworth, Haley Bown, Faith Bown and Ethan Brown.

A special “Thank-You” to Annette Gibson and Kathy Brown for all of their time and dedication.
