Margaret A. Rice

Margaret Anne “Peggy” Rice – 59 – of 17 Harrington Pl., Hornell, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (March 3, 2013) surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born November 18, 1953 and was the daughter of James & Marion (Baker) Clark.

Peg grew up in Hornell where she attended Lincoln School and St. Ann’s School.  She later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1971).

She was employed for 28 years as a secretary at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) retiring in 2009.  Peggy was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a livelong communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church.  She had also been a member of the Hornell Elks Lodge.

Peggy will be remembered as a warm & gentle woman with a heart of gold.  Although she lived a simply, quiet life, she always found time to laugh with her friends or lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Her true joy in life, however, was simply spending time with her family and caring for her dogs.  She will be truly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary.

Surviving are 2 sons, Jamie (Andrea) Kull of Hemlock and Mark Kull of Rochester; 1 daughter, Erin Rice of Brooklyn, NY; 3 sisters, Kay Miller of Winchester, VA, Elizabeth Clark of Roanoke, VA and Maureen Clark of Wayland; 1 brother, Mike (Donna) Clark of Hornell; several nieces & nephews, including her special niece, Kim Clark-Kelleher.

The family of Margaret Anne “Peggy” Rice will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 2:00 PM at St. Ann’s Church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Peggy’s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.  Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

I was so sad to see Peggy’s name in the paper…I have been praying for the family and just wanted to let you know how sorry and sad to hear the news. Peggy wrote me many times, for the Kids Over 50 column and just last month wrote me..I enjoyed hearing from her all the time….I never knew she was sick. May God comfort you all during your loss and please know how much your Mom’s emails met to me, I smiled whenever I received one. May God bless you today and always….
