Lori A. Isaman, 50, of 21 West Genesee St., Hornell, passed away Thursday evening (June 24, 2021) at her home following a lifelong battle with diabetes.

Born in North Hornell on June 11, 1971, she was the daughter of Kenneth & Sheryl (Chace) Isaman.

Lori grew up in Arkport and was a graduate of Arkport Central School (class of 1989).  She later attended Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred).

For many years, Lori was employed at several area banks, including Five Star Bank, Community Bank, and Maple City Savings.  She thoroughly enjoyed her banking career and interacting with the customers while working as a teller & customer service representative.  She was known for her beautiful smile at the drive-thru window, and she loved nothing more than helping serve the customers of her local community.

Lori loved cats, and she loved gardening around her house.  She was always eager to help anyone who needed anything.  Her family and friends always said she was known to “give the shirt off her back” if anyone needed it. Her sense of humor and kindness for others exuded in her interactions with them, and she truly enjoyed people.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth “Ken” Isaman, who died in 2017.

Lori is survived by her son, Logan Isaman of Hornell; her mother, Sheryl Isaman of Arkport; her brother, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Isaman of Winston-Salem, NC; her sister, Stephanie Isaman of Arkport; her niece, Allison Mansell; 2 nephews, Ethan Isaman and Lucas Isaman; several aunts, uncles & cousins.

At Lori’s request, there will be no calling hours.  A private Memorial Service will be held at the family’s convenience, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

Lori’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to all of the Emergency Medical Personnel who came to her rescue throughout the years as her diabetes worsened.  These local “Super Heroes” saved her life many times.  The Isaman family will never forget how wonderful and professional they were each and every time they came to Lori’s assistance.

Adonis Michael-Zachariah George, precious baby boy of Ashley Fuller and Matt George was born into the arms of Angels June 20, 2021.

Although Adonis never spent any time with us on earth he was truly loved and touched many lives.  Our “Little Angel” will never be forgotten and will always live in our hearts!

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Michael George.

Surviving are his parents, Ashley & Matt; his big sister, Amara Rivera-George; his paternal grandmother, Patty George; his maternal grandmother, Roxanne (Fred Tigner) Fuller; 2 aunts, Alexus Davis and Jaime George;     1 uncle, Anthony George; several great-aunts; great-uncles; & cousins.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mary Jane Lemmer – 95 – of Hornell passed away Thursday morning (June 17, 2021) at her home.

Born on August 14, 1925 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Herman and Alice Cramer.

Mary Jane graduated from Lincoln High school and went on to receive her RN degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1946.

She married Dr. Eugene J. Lemmer and moved to Hornell in 1948.  She worked with him in his Chiropractic Practice as an office assistant.  Mary Jane and Eugene also established the Lemmer Greenhouse in the early 1960s. She began her Hornell career in nursing at the Bethesda Hospital.  She continued her nursing at the Hornell Gardens. She retired in 1990.

Mary Jane loved to work in her greenhouse. She enjoyed meeting friends as she shopped at Wal-Mart.  She was an avid crafter, dollhouse enthusiast and enjoyed crocheting.  She lovingly made over 300 Prayer shawls and donated these to the Prayer Shawl ministry.

She was predeceased by her son Gary in 1957 and her husband in 2004.

Surviving are her daughter Mary Alice Margeson of Hornell; granddaughter Emily Murray (Nick Shirley); grandson Trevor (Chelsea) Miller; three great granddaughters, Onalea, Emory and Addalee Miller; step- daughter Donna (Mike) Slikkers and family of Holland, Michigan; and step- son Stanley Lemmer and family of Tennessee.

Mary Jane’s family would like to thank her devoted caregivers for their many hours of care and companionship. We are grateful for Kathy Miller, Jessica Cabic, Kristi Sheldon, and Corie Teribury for their support as Mary Jane wished to stay in her home.

Honoring Mary Jane’s wishes, there will be no public funeral services or calling hours. A Private memorial will be at a later date.

Vincent Schiera – 94 – of New York City died at the Isabella Nursing Home in New York.

He was born in Palermo, Sicily on May 14, 1925, and was the son of Giuseppe & Teresa (Spatola) Schiera.  He moved to the United States and settled in New York City and became a proud US citizen.

He worked a number of years as a grocer and later became the owner of The Public Fish Market which was the oldest fish market in Harlem.

Vincent loved to visit the Italian bakeries and coffee shops on the Lower East Side on Sundays with his family.  He was well known in his Washington Heights neighborhood as “Papi.”

He was married to the former Julia Losecco (of Hornell) who died in 1990.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Theresa Schiera Vega and her husband, Edward G. Vega; grandchildren, Dina, Jenna; great-granddaughter, Mia.  He also leaves behind his sister, Rosa; nephews, Pepino, Giorgio, Nello; nieces, Marchella & Cetti in Palermo, Sicily.

At Vincent’s request there will be no calling hours.  A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Fr. Stan Kacprzak officiating.

John J. “Jack” Generalli – (85) – of 83 Platt St., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (June 10, 2021) at Hornell Gardens following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on January 3, 1936, he was the son of John & Wyona (Smith) Generalli.

Jack, affectionately known as “The General”, grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School (class of 1954).  Following the untimely death of his sister, he left high school just two months before graduation.  He later earned his General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country from 1955-1957 and was stationed at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) following the end of the Korean Conflict. While serving in the US Army, Jack was a member of the Military Honor Guard.  He later served in the US Army Reserves.

Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Jack returned to the Hornell area and was employed for several years at Asplundh Tree Service.   For nearly 30 years he worked in construction for numerous construction companies in the area.  He retired in 1998.

Jack had been a member of the Hornell American Legion, the Hornell VFW and a former member of the Hornell Sons of Italy.  He was also a 50 year member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America.  In his younger years he loved playing billiards (shooting pool) and in recent years enjoyed golfing, working in his garden (he was known for his garlic) and taking long walks with his dog.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Arleen Mae Generalli.

Surviving are his longtime companion, Mary Lou Markham of Hornell; several cousins; and several of Mary Lou’s nieces & nephews.  He will also be missed by his lifelong friend, Gerry Powers.

At Jack’s request there will be no calling hours.  A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.  Final interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.

In recognition of Jack’s service to his country as a member of the US Army, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.

Joseph Patrick “Joe” McHale – 88 – formerly of Hornell,  passed away in Middleburg, Florida following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on February 14, 1932, he was the son of Michael and Twila (Meyers) McHale.

Joe grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1949).  He served in the U.S Navy from 1951-1955 aboard the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Following his navy years, he graduated from Compton Junior College in California receiving his AAS degree.

Returning to Hornell, he worked for Owens publishing in Dansville, managed the Lone Gable Bar/Restaurant, and retired from the USPS (as a rural route carrier).

Joe was an avid golfer, having played all over the world while in the navy.  He was a member of the (old) Hornell Country Club and later the Twin Hickory Golf Club. He and his wife, Julie, were snowbirds for years, enjoying golf all over Florida.  Joe was a real handyman who was always ready to fix or repair anything.  He also loved woodworking, and all of his family have examples of his work: Pendulum clocks, footstools, bookshelves, and the like.  So many memories!!!

Throughout the years, Joe had been a member of the Hornell Elks Lodge and later the Green Cove Springs Elks Lodge in Green Cove, FL; the Hornell American Legion, the Hornell Knights of Columbus and the Hornell AMVETS.

In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom (Jo) McHale, Ray (Mary Lou) McHale and Steve Mchale; his sister-in-law, Anne Williams.

He was married on September 19, 1970 to the former Julie Tristen who survives.  Also surviving are his daughters Kiera McHale and Erin McHale (Jerry) Smith of Middleburg, Fl; 4 grandchildren, Christian Torres, Adriana Torres, Kaleb Smith and Aliyah Smith; his brother Jim (Lucille) McHale of Tafton, PA; sister-in-law Leona Purcell of Orange Park Florida; his brothers-in-law Bill Shane of Oklahoma and Brad Williams of Bath NY; and sister- in-law Linda McHale; along with many nieces and nephews.

Joe was dearly loved and is sorely missed.

The family of Joe McHale will receive friends on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.   A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

Carolyn J. Finnerty – 78 – of 10516 State Route 36, Dansville, died Sunday morning (May 23, 2021) at her home.

Born in Elkland, PA on august 5, 1942, she was the daughter of Lee & Kathleen Bliss and was raised by her step-father, Jack Jeffers.

Carolyn grew up in Elkland, PA and attended Elkland High School.  For many years she resided in Rochester and in 1999 she moved to North Bingham, PA.  She has resided in Dansville for the past two years.

She had been a member of the Willing, NY Volunteer Fire Department and was a live member of the Wellsville VFW.

Carolyn enjoyed crocheting and was known for making beautiful quilts & blankets.  She also loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping & fishing.  Her greatest joy, however, was simply spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She was married on August 16, 1959 to Edward Finnerty SR who died in 2009 after 50 years of marriage.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Bliss; and her grandson, Wayne Finnerty.

Surviving are her son, Edward (Debra) Finnerty JR of Macedon, NY; 2 daughters, Julie (Ray) Wilson of Palmyra, NY and Amy Butler of Dansville; 1 sister, Debra (Randy) Seeley of Elkland, PA; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews.

Cleola B. “Sue” Herington – 80 – of 11044 Pfaff Hollow Ext., Perkinsville, died Saturday afternoon (May 22, 2021) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, following a long illness.

Born in Lima, NY on April 24, 1941, she was the daughter of Clarence & Dorothy Herington.

Sue grew up in Lima and was a graduate of Lima High School (class of 1959).  She resided in Springwater for several years and has lived in Perkinsville for the past 30 years.

She was a member of the Ingleside Christian Church of Naples.  Sue enjoyed crocheting and creating beautiful doll clothes.  She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles.  One of Sue’s favorite pastimes was baking cookies and bread (especially pepperoni bread) and spending time with her family, especially her sister.  Sue also was a proud monthly donor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by 2 sisters; 4 brothers; her grandson; and her son-in-law.

Survivors include the “Love of Her Life”, Raymond Prigge; 2 daughters, Shannon (Guy Chilson) Chilson of Dansville and Becky Smith of Honeoye, 2 sons, Jeff (Louann) Smith of Florida and Joe (Teri) smith of Honeoye; her step-children, Cyndi Prigge of West Sparta, Matt (Amanda) Prigge of Wayland, Danyel (James Stewart) Prigge of Arkport and Jared Prigge of Canisteo; her sister, Lois Gascon of Birdsall; many grandchildren, including Cristie, Brandon , Anthony and Austin; several nieces & nephews.

Robert F. “Bob” Butler – 82 – of 6692 Laine Rd., Hornell, died early Saturday morning (May 22, 2021) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on February 17, 1939, he was the son of Forbes & June (Dillon) Butler and was raised by his “Mom”, Carolyn Meeks.

Bob resided in many locations during his childhood and actually attend 37 different schools throughout the United States.  He graduated from Andover Central School (class of 1959).

Following high school graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1959 – 1961.  While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Japan for 18 months.

After being honorably discharged from the military, Bob was employed at the former Erie Railroad for about 2 years and later worked as a machinist for Worthington Corporation in Wellsville.  For many years he was employed as a lineman for Bell Telephone, New York Telephone and Verizon, retiring in 1999.

In his younger years, Bob was involved in Boy Scouts of America and served as a scoutmaster for three years.  He was an avid golfer and cherished the time spent with his buddies playing on area golf courses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Troy Daniel Butler (died 1978); 2 brothers, Clinton Butler and Michael Robinson; 1 sister, Cathy Halsey Hicks; his grandson, Christopher Kettner.

Bob was married on February 4, 1961 to the former Lorretta Grossman who survives.  Also surviving are his son, Mark (Bev) Butler of Hornell; 2 daughters, Tami (Lance) Carpenter of Hornell and Shawn (Rus) Kettner of Oshkosh, WI; 1 sister, Brenda Fitzwater of Mary Ester, FL; his grandchildren, Quade (Bailey) Butler, Quin (Emily) Butler, Dylan (Elija) Carpenter, Bronte (Dylynn) Carpenter, Raven (Ricky) Carpenter, Hannah Kettner, Eli Kettner, Noah Kettner, Kasandra (Rich) Updyke and  Britney (Adam) Updyke; his great-grandchildren, Brynn Hunt, Braylee Hunt, Lennox Kohler, Addy Butler, Amelia Butler, Lakyn Schroeder, Ivar Sorensen, Faye Sorensen and soon to arrive, Nova Carpenter; several nieces & nephews.

David M. “Bubba” Glover– 76 – of 4660 Stratton Rd., Bath, formerly of Hornell, died Friday afternoon (May 21, 2021) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on August 22, 1944, he was the son of Homer & Betty (Rupert) Glover and the step-son of Walter Manry (who Betty later married).  He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Dave grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1964).  As he grew older, he liked to recall his youth as a time he spent walking on his hands.  Indeed, he was a funny, agile, strong, handsome, charming, and energetic young man, full of life and determination.  He fell in love with Paula early in life.  They married on September 4, 1965 and built the kind of relationship everyone wants.  For 55 years, they were the best of friends, supported each other without question, and regularly found reason to laugh.  Paula felt lucky to have won the heart of such a “beautiful man.” Their adoration for one another only strengthened over the years. Family and friends recall the welcoming warmth of their home.

David taught us all what it means to be truly there for your family. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared this love, including hunting (especially deer) and fishing, with his children.  He inspired and supported their love of sports. Throughout the years, he served as a coach for David and Kim’s teams–Little League, Cinderella Softball, and often the HHS Girls Softball Team.  Never afraid to stand up for what he believed in, he defended and advocated for his family boldly and tirelessly. While he was an incredibly present husband and father, he found the energy to work three jobs to support his wife and children.  Among the jobs he worked, he was employed for several years at the former Corbin Wood Products in Hornell. Later he worked as a machinist at the former SKF Industries and for many years at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville.  He retired about 14 years ago.

Over the years, he loved and cared for many animals, both dogs and cats. He enjoyed feeding birds, playing cards, and watching sports. He was a “die-hard” New York Yankee fan and also loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills—especially during the Super Bowl years.

In addition to his parents and step-father, Dave was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Grace Glover.

He is survived by his wife, the former Paula Dailey; a son, David (Stephanie Andersen) Glover of Blandon, PA; a daughter, Kimberly (Patty Amidon) Glover of Arkport; a brother, Homer (Nancy) Glover of Rochester; a sister, Beverly Daggett of Penn Yan; 6 grandchildren, Tyler (Story) Glover, Kelsey (Deven) Peet, Emma Glover, Elianna Starr, Sophia Glover and Audrey Glover; several nieces & nephews; 2 dogs, Ruby and Betty; and 3 cats, Charlie, Mama, and Sonny.

For anyone who knew Bubba, his absence feels so very large.  He brought life and laughter wherever he went. Without him, life will never be the same.
