Catherine B.“Bridget” Quartz

Catherine B. “Bridget” Quartz – (84) – a resident of McAuley Manor, formerly of Churchville, NY, died Monday morning (November 29, 2010) at McAuley Manor following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on August 12, 1926, she was the daughter of Gerald & Ruth (Donlon) O’Connor.

Bridget grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School (class of 1944).  She graduated from James School of Nursing in 1947.

She resided in Churchville for most of her adult life.  She had been employed at the Jewish Nursing Home in Rochester and later for the American Red Cross, retiring in 1996.

While living in Hornell, Bridget had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and while in Churchville, she attended St. Vincent DePaul Church.

She was married on April 6, 1953 to Joseph Gerard “Jerry” Quartz who preceded her in death in 2007.  She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Ellen Wheeler and JoAnne Rohan, both of Hornell.

Surviving are her sister, Marie (Ed) Shane of Mechanicsville, PA; her brother, James (Mary) O’Connor of Dansville; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Tobin of Hornell and Jean (Rich) Pollinger of Hornell; several niece, nephews & cousins.

At Catherine’s request there will be no calling hours.  Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Churchville.   Burial will be in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery.

Bridget’s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to either St. Ann’s School, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Hornell Humane Society,
PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
