Robert J. “Bob” Stillman – 69 – of 24 East Washington St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Thursday morning (September 28, 2023) at his home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 23, 1954, he was the son of Robert & Kathleen (McDonald) Stillman.

Bob grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1972). He was a veteran of the US Air Force and, following his honorable discharge, resided in Florida where he was employed in the maintenance department at Disney World.

Returning to the Hornell area, Bob worked as a mechanic at Morrison-Knudson (MK) for about five years. He decided to further his education and eventually earned his Associate’s Degree in Drafting & Engineering from Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred). For several years, Bob was employed in the drafting & design department of Transportation & Transit Associated (TTA) in Hornell. Most recently he served as Project Supervisor for Jacobs Engineering Company, working throughout New York State, Pennsylvania and Florida. He had planned to retire at the end of September.

Bob was a former communicant of St. Ann’s Church and a member of the Hornell Association and the Bath VFW. He enjoyed rooting for the LA Rams (NFL) and was an avid NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Tony Stewart. He also was proud of his 2011 Dodge Ram Truck which he affectionately named “Irene.”

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his grandson, Caleb Stillman; his brother, John Griffith; and his previous wife, Susan Irene Stillman who died November 30, 2011.

He was married on June 28, 2013 to the former Sharon Freas Preusch who survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, Mike (Lyndsey) Stillman of Hornell, Gregg (Nicole) Stillman of Charlotte, NC, Matt Stillman of Canisteo and Justin (Marisa) Stillman of Charlotte, NC; his step-children, Steven Brott of Hornell and Sandy (Joey) Rovito of Columbus, OH; 2 brothers, Jim Stillman of Hornell and Tim (Diane) Griffith of Hornell; 2 sisters, Sue (Tom Aures) Brewster of Hornell and Kathy (Joe) DeKay of Cameron; 13 grandchildren, Morgon, Quinn, Aiden, Harper, Nolan, Hunter, Rosalie,
Christopher, Dylan, Zachary, Jacob, Cory and George; 4 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Bella, Chase &  Rylee; along with extended family.

The family of Robert J. “Bob” Stillman will receive friends on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 (Noon) at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 12:00 (Noon) with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Final interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rexville, NY.

Following the Memorial Service on Saturday, November 18, 2023, family & friends are invited to a “Celebration of Life” to be held at the Hornell Association where stories and memories of Bob can be shared.

In recognition of Bob service to his country as a member of the US Army, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.
