Ronald E. “Pops” Youmans – 61 – of 6 Pine Tree Village, Painted Post, NY, died Thursday morning (April 19, 2018) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, following a long illness.

Born in Corning, NY on December 31, 1956, he was the son of William & Leola (Edwards) Youmans.

Pops grew up in Monterey, NY and attended Bradford High School in Bradford, NY. He had been employed for about 15 years in the Dietary Department of Corning Hospital and later worked at mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport and also Jamison Marine in Campbell. Most recently he was employed as a caregiver for Pathways in Corning.

He was an avid collector of antique tractors, cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles. He also enjoyed muscle cars and building models with his sons. Pops was also a “big time” NASCAR fan and loved rooting for his favorite driver, Kevin Harvick.  For several years, Pops was employed at Watkins Glen International Racetrack as a grounds maintenance worker.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Youmans.

Surviving are 2 sons, Justin (Gwen) Youmans of Horseheads and Brandon (Katie) Youmans of Lindley, NY; 1 brother, Roger (Wendy) Youmans of Beaver Dams, NY; 1 sister, Deborah Marshall of West Virginia; 12 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

David R. “Dave” Hagadorn – 68 – of 9055 State Route 36, Arkport, died early Thursday morning (April 19, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on July 8, 1949, he was the son of Clifford & Lulu (VanScoter) Hagadorn.

Dave grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1967). While in high school, he excelled in several sports, but primarily made his mark as a pitcher for the Hornell Red Raider Baseball Team. During those years, Dave also was an All-Star Pitcher in the Hornell Babe Ruth League and later the Older Babe Ruth League. It was during these formative years that he became one of the best pitchers in the area and was known to possess a 95 per hour fastball.

Earning a full athletic scholarship to Mansfield University, Dave pitched for the Mansfield Mounties. While at Mansfield, he caught the attention of several Major League Baseball Teams and was eventually signed by the Cincinnati Reds. Dave pitched for the Reds Farm teams until injury resulted in the end of his professional baseball career. He had the fortunate experience of playing with baseball greats Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey, Sr.

In 1974, Dave enlisted in the United States Army and enrolled in Officer’s Candidate School. He served his country until he was awarded an honorable discharge in 1976.

Dave was married on June 12, 1971 to the former Delmar “Del” Ratkowski whom he met while both were attending Mansfield University. Together they resided in the Arkport area for nearly 48 years raising their family and sharing their lives with their many, many friends.

An accomplished carpenter & contractor, Dave owned & operated Hagadorn Builders and throughout the years built and remodeled approximately 100 homes, mostly in the Hornell – Arkport area.

He loved keeping physically fit and for many years was a devoted runner, often running 5 – 10 miles following a hard day’s work building homes. A construction work accident at the age of 50 limited most of his fitness ambitions. Dave was an avid sports fan and loved rooting for his beloved New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.

Dave will be remembered as a loving and devoted family man who loved his wife and children unconditionally. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his children grow up and loved watching them play sports and participate in school functions. He especially loved “playing ball” with his kids after a hard day’s work. He was actively involved with coaching his children in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball programs in Arkport and Hornell, and contributed much of his free time with the construction of the Arkport Central School baseball and soccer fields. In his retirement, Dave enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, while having his dog “Bella” by his side. He loved visiting with friends, always delivering a cup of McDonald’s coffee and sharing funny stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff & Lulu Hagadorn.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Delmar “Del” Hagadorn; his daughter, Robyn (Ramsey) Batmangelich of Chicago, IL; 2 sons, Scott (Colleen) Hagadorn of Pittsford, NY and Bryan Hagadorn of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Gary Hagadorn of Charleston, SC; his grandson, Ryder Batmangelich; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

The family of David R. ‘Dave” Hagadorn will receive friends on Saturday (April 21, 2018) from 12:00 (Noon) until 4:00 PM the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Randall O. “Randy” Young – (63) – of 7321 North Main St. Ext., Hornell, NY (Town of Hornellsville) died Thursday afternoon (April 12, 2018) following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family at his favorite place — his hunting camp in Greenwood, NY.

Born in Hornell on July 2, 1954, he was the son of Orman & Patricia (Gee) Young.

A lifelong resident of the Hornell area, Randy was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1972). He had been employed for over 20 years at the former Sears Store in Hornell, first as a salesman and later as an appliance repairman. He was later employed in many capacities at the Alfred College of Ceramics, retiring in 2016 as a Glass Furnace Technician following 20 years of service.

Randy was an avid “Outdoorsman” who loved all aspects of hunting and fishing. Throughout the years he traveled to many different states on hunting & fishing trips, bonding with family and great friends.

He had been a member of the Arkport American Legion and also the Hornell Moose Lodge. Randy was an avid Buffalo Bills Football Fan and also enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees. He loved working on home repair & remodeling projects at his home and also his Greenwood camp. He had a deep affection for his beloved pets (primarily his beagles) and had an especially strong bond with his German Shepard, Maverick and his cat, Joshyboy. More than anything, Randy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his camp. His most precious joy were his grandchildren, Cole (Bailey Anspach) Young and Aylah Morris.

He was married on February 10, 1973 to his high school sweetheart, the former Linda Dolph who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Randall “Randy” Young of Hornell and Joel Young of Geneseo; 1 daughter, Jamie (Anthony) Morris of Bishopville; his mother & step-father, Patricia & Richard Davison of Canaseraga; 3 brothers, David Young of Bath, Richard Davison of Canaseraga and Orman (Dale Rouse) Young of Canisteo;
4 sisters, Rebecca (Lee Hurst) Young of Rochester, Sandy Kinnerney of Alfred, Julia (Tom) Testani of Hornell and Brenda (Jim Woodworth) Evingham of Canisteo; several nieces & nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Orman Young; his sister, Norma Racalto; and his niece, Mary Jo Hill.

At Randy’s request there will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 1:00 PM – Till??? at the Arkport American Legion where family and friends will be encouraged to share memories and stories about Randy.

Richard D. Padgett – 74 – formerly of New Jersey, died Friday morning (April 12, 2018) at Elderwood of Hornell Nursing Facility where he had resided for the past seven years.

Born in Trenton, NJ on January 3, 1944, he was the son of Albert & Rilla (Kimble) Padgett.

Richard was one of six children, with four brothers and one sister. He was born with the name RD, however chose to have his name legally changed to Richard at the age of 38. When he went to court, the judge asked him why he wanted to change his name. He responded “If you had my name, you would too” and the judge agreed.

He married Diane in 1962 and together they were blessed with three children, Jeff, Deborah and Kathy.

Richard worked as a professional photographer and limousine driver. He shared many stories about the many famous people that he met throughout his career, including Jackie Onassis, Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, Sigourney Weaver and John Kennedy JR. He also had the opportunity of driving Mrs. Kennedy to a horse show in Maryland. Upon arrival, she asked Richard to assist her in getting on a horse. After Mrs. Kennedy’s failed attempt at getting on and falling, Richard caught her in his arms.

Richard’s career and travels took him to many places including Canada, Mexico and every state in the United States except Alaska and Hawaii. He especially had fond memories of California and being captivated by the beauty of the Redwood Trees.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 58, Richard said “This disease has been the biggest struggle in my life. It’s a terrible disease that takes your motions and speech away and makes you very tired. What I could do yesterday, I now can’s do today. I wish people would learn to have more patience with me and allow me time to talk and make myself understood.”

While living at Elderwood of Hornell (formerly McAuley Manor) Richard greatly appreciated the view from his bedroom window, visiting with people “one-on-one”, sharing stories and enriching lives through the beauty of his photographs which were on display throughout the hallway on Cranberry lane.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Jeff.

Joyce L. Macaluso- 84 – formerly of Maple Court Homes, Hornell, died Wednesday morning (April 4, 2018) at Updyke’s Willow Ridge Nursing Facility, where she had resided for the past three years.

Born in Canisteo, NY on March 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Clifford and Madelene (Symonds) Feenaughty.

Joyce grew up in Canisteo and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School (class of 1952).  She later earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Geneseo State Teachers College (SUNY Geneseo) and her master’s from University at Buffalo.

She resided in Mt. Morris, NY for over 20 years and for several years had been employed as an English teacher at Nunda Central School and briefly taught history at Mt. Morris High School.  For about 10 years, Joyce lived in Depew, NY and served as administrator at a drug & alcohol rehab facility in Buffalo, NY.  For about 15 years, she resided in Gallup, New Mexico where she worked as a mental health counselor to the Navajo Indian Nation.  She had resided in Hornell for the past 20 years.

Joyce had a deep love & affection for all animals and loved her huskies, greyhounds, and cats.  She was adventurous and she had a great sense of humor. She was a “career woman” well before it was common.

She was married to Louis S. “Louie” Macaluso who died February 4, 1978, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Jon Patrick “Pat” Feenaughty of Canisteo, NY, on April 16, 2015.

Surviving are her son, Timothy (Daryl Parks, her “other son”) Macaluso of Rochester; three brothers, Ledale “Dale” (Rosemary) Feenaughty of Bolivar, Lynn (Sharon) Feenaughty of Phoenix, AZ and Gerald (Phyllis) Feenaughty of Savona, NY; along with several nieces & nephews.

Nancy L. Nenna – (65) – formerly of Canisteo, died Monday morning (April 4 2018) at Elderwood of Hornell, where she had resided for the past 14 years.

Born in North Hornell on January 28, 1953, she was the daughter of Jesse & Rose (Wing) Reese.

Nancy grew up in Jasper and was a graduate of Jasper Central School (Class of 1972).  She had been employed at the former Marion Rohr Corporation, Hornell Red Barn, and the cafeteria at Alfred State College.  She also picked grapes for the wineries in Hammondsport.  She was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church of Canisteo.

A very sociable person, Nancy loved to simply spend time talking to her friends.  In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses and actually owned her own horse named Smokey.

She preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Haight and Joseph Nenna.

Surviving are 4 sons, Heath Weitzel of Idaho, Doug Weitzel of Hornell, Jim Weitzel of Hornell and John Weitzel of Canisteo; her brother, Mike (Irene) Reese of Fremont; half-brothers, Matthew (Janie) Willis of Florida, Tim Willis and Nathan (Darcy) Willis, both of Jasper; several grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

John J. “Jack” Emo – (71) – of 5798 County Rt. 68 (Crosby Creek Road), Hornell, died early Sunday morning (April 1, 2018) at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

A native & life resident of the Hornell area, he was born October 7, 1946 and was the son of Bertram & Catherine (Clancy) Emo.  His father having died before he was born and his mother having died when he was only 7 months old, Jack was raised by his aunt & uncle, Francis & Marguerite Clancy.

Jack was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School (class of 1965).  He later earned his Associate’s Degree in Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanics from Williamsport Community College.  He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Elmira College.

For 30 years, Jack was employed as a teacher at Wildwood BOCES in Hornell, teaching Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanics.  He retired in 2001.  For over 35 years, he, along with his wife & family owned and operated JMAK Farm, a 300 acre dairy farm located on the Crosby Creek Road in Hornell.  Jack also drove school bus for the Alfred-Almond Central School for 24 years and served on the AACS Agriculture Advisory Board.  He also volunteered for several years as a bus driver for BOCES Special Education events.

Jack was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and for many years had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church.  Since 2007, he and his wife, Mary Ann spent the winter months in Cocoa, FL where they attended Blessed Sacrament Church.

He was a member of the Hornell Association and a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Hornell Moose Lodge and the Hornell Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren riding 4-wheelers and taking care of his 50 acre lawn.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Clancy and his sisters, Beverly (Clancy) Blumenfeld and Patricia (Clancy) Thorn.

Jack was married on April 20, 1968 to Mary Ann Walsh who survives.  Surviving are his children, John (Michele) Emo of Hornell, Jason (Jodie) Emo of Hornell and Kasi (Aaron) Washburn of Hornell; 2 brothers, Francis (Lucille) Clancy of Hornell and Alan (Mary Jane) Clancy of Rochester; 8 amazing grandchildren, JR, Ashley, Kali, Morgan, Nick, Owen, Jack & Ryan; many nieces & nephews.

The family of John J. “Jack” Emo will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Casual dress is requested and encouraged by the family.

Richard A. “Rich” Argentieri – 79 – of 54 Erie Ave., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (March 29, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on August 15, 1938, he was the son of Nicholas & Emma (Severo) Argentieri.

Rich grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School (class of 1958). He later earned his Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Alfred State College.

For most of his adult life, Rich was involved in the restaurant business. From 1958 – 1973 he served as manager of the Blue Angel Restaurant, a family business owned by his parents. In 1974 he opened the Italian Villa restaurant in the K-Mart Plaza and operated the business for about six years. In 1980, Rich moved to Daytona Beach, FL and opened Angelo’s Italian Restaurant which he operated for about seven years.

Rich move back to Hornell in 1987 and established the Pink Cadillac Restaurant which he owned & operated until 1997. In recent years, he helped out his son, Dickie, by working in the kitchen of the Italian Villa Restaurant. He was usually spotted in the kitchen rolling meatballs & rolling pizza dough.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. He was also a member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus and the Hornell Elks Lodge. In his younger years, Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing & playing golf. Throughout the years, he was enjoyed rooting for the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. He was also a NASCAR fan with his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt.

Rich is survived by 2 daughters, Deborah (Christopher) Alger of Hornell and Karen Argentieri of Washington, DC; 2 sons, Richard “Dickie” Argentieri of Hornell and Nicholas Arno of Hornell; his loving companion, Bonnie Arno with whom he resided; 2 sisters, Mary Theresa Walsh of Fairport and Diane Argentieri of Hornell; 1 brother, Joseph (Pamela) Argentieri of West Palm Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren, Erica Alger, Samantha Alger, Zachary Alger and Alexandria Argentieri; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

At Rich’s request there will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at St. Ann’s Church with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Patrick D. “Pat” VanGorden – 58 – of 449 Canisteo St., Hornell died unexpectedly Thursday morning (March 29, 2018) at his home.

Born in Corning, NY on August 8, 1959, he was the son of James & Diane (Coon) VanGorden.

Pat grew up in the Corning – Addison area and was a graduate of Addison High School (class of 1977). He later graduated from Corning Hospital School of Radiology and became a licensed x-ray technician. For several years he was employed as an x-ray technician at the Corning Hospital

When he moved to Hornell over 30 years ago, Pat enjoyed attending self help groups. He liked watching sporting events on TV — especially football & baseball. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting & fishing. He also shared a very special bond with his maternal grandmother, Ruth Coon.

Pat was preceded in death by his sister, Vicki McKenzie.

Surviving are 2 brothers, James (Christine) VanGorden of Painted Post and Mike VanGorden of Charlotte, NC; his dear friend Barbara Caparulo; several nieces & nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his dear friends, Eric Iannone and Keith Mitchell.

Lorraine C. Klann – (92) – of 1190 County Route 66, Hornell, passed peacefully late Friday evening (March 23, 2018) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.

Lorraine was born on August 12, 1925 and grew up in New Orleans, LA. She was the daughter of Norbert & Octavia (LaSalle) Bourgeois. She was a graduate of John McDonough High School (Class of 1941) and later attended a business school in Louisiana.

On September 16, 1945, Lorraine married the love of her life, Jack Klann. In 1946, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, raising her family in Oak Park, MI and in later years lived in Somerset, MI before moving to Hornell in 1988.

Throughout the years Lorraine’s greatest joy was the quality time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While living in Hornell, she was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Hornell, a local women’s quilting group and Hornell Women’s Republican Committee. Lorraine also volunteered for many community organizations including assisting with Hornell area blood drives for the Red Cross, helping in Bryant Elementary School as a “Grandma” and driving the elderly to various appointments for Faith in Action. Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and country line dancing.

In addition to her beloved husband Jack who passed in 1984, Lorraine was predeceased by her brother Norbert “N.J.” Bourgeois, JR, brother-in-law, Robert Klann and 2 sons-in-law Larry Waight and David Broderick.

Surviving are 4 daughters, Darlene Waight of Hornell, Karen (Robert) Daring of Hornell, Peggy Broderick of Hornell and Janet Kraft of Concord, NC; her grandchildren, Tina Page, Renay (Tom) Shull, Tom Holland, Jeffrey Daring, Dustin (Brittany) Broderick, Sarah Broderick, Kalyn (Kaleb) VonBerg, Brendan Kraft, Tyler (Sidney) Kraft; her great-grandchildren, Gregory Page, Natalie Shull, Riley Shull, Quin Broderick, and Ezra VonBerg. Additionally Lorraine is survived by her sisters-in-law Doris Klann and Shirley Bourgeois; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Barbara Klann; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lorraine was loved beyond measure, by not only her family, but also her friends, of which she had many. She was an amazing woman who will be missed greatly by all who had the privilege of having her in their life.

Family and Friends are invited to extend their condolences on Saturday, (March 31, 2018) from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in Hornell. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 PM with Pastor Cedric Cooper officiating. Final interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery alongside her husband, Jack.
