Marilyn L. Andrews – 85 – of Maple Court, Hornell, died unexpectedly early Thursday evening (September 4, 2025) at St. James Hospital, leaving behind a life marked by faith, kindness and unwavering love.
Born in Hornell on January 7, 1940, she was the daughter of Donald & Marion (Horton) Philbrick. She was married on October 19, 1963 to George Andrews, her beloved husband and best friend of almost 62 years.
Marilyn grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1958). Following high school graduation, she served as a bookkeeper at the former St. James Mercy Hospital for about 4 years. Throughout the years, Marilyn was employed as a salesperson for several local businesses, including Mr. Panosian’s Shoe Store, The Wooden Indian and the Stationary Center.
Marilyn was a committed Christian woman of strong faith. Her gentle and joyful spirit touched the lives of many and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Hillside Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving and fellowship for many years. She was an active participant in The Rollers, a mission through Hillside that rolls bandages for hospitals in need in Bangladesh.
Marilyn had a deep love of family who brought her great joy. She leaves behind a legacy of three children – Brian (Terresa) Andrews of Canton, GA, Karen (Tracy) Burdett of Hornell and Steven (Tricia) Andrews of Canandaigua, NY; twelve grandchildren – Lauren (Chris) Adamson, Jordan (Tommy) Chalkley, Madison (Austin) Dudman, Brian (Julia) Andrews, Brandon (Lydia) Andrews, Joshua (Emily) Burdett, Nicholas (Claire) Burdett, Caleb (Rachel) Burdett, Marisa Andrews, Derek Andrews, Jessica Andrews, and Lily Andrews, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending sporting events and school activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also survived by her brother Ken Philbrick of Arkport, her brother-in-law Sid Parks or Hornell and several nieces & nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jean Parks and Joyce Healey; her sister-in-law Mary Lou Philbrick.
Marilyn spent time cross-stitching, creating beautiful pictures & pillow cases. She also enjoyed making detailed, hand colored pictures and greeting cards to bless family & friends. She loved music, playing piano and exercising with her friends at the Hornell YMCA as part of the “Silver Sneakers” group.
The family of Marilyn L. Andrews will receive friends on Friday (Sept. 12, 2025) from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM
at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held on Saturday (Sept. 13, 2025) at 11:00 AM at the Hillside Baptist Church, 805 County Route 66, Hornell, NY with Rev. Craig Brittingham officiating.
Marilyn’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hillside Baptist Church, 805 County Route 66, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
