Lucy Lantz, 105 years young, of Hornell, died early Wednesday morning (February 17, 2021) at Hornell Gardens where she resided for the past 15 years.
Born in Hornell on November 1, 1915, she was the daughter of Ludwig & Margaret (Mosley) Lantz.
Lucy grew up in Hornell and for 37 years resided in Newark, NY. She returned to the Hornell area where she resided for the past 50 years.
An avid bingo player, Lucy enjoyed putting together complicated jigsaw puzzles, framing them and giving them as gifts to family & friends. She was a self-proclaimed “Social Butterfly” with a great sense of humor and a true music lover who enjoyed dancing with her sister, Sophie.
Lucy had a deep affection for animals and would often “take-in” stray dogs & cats, providing food & shelter for her “four-legged friends”. Although Lucy was never blessed with children of her own, she seemed to have adopted the entire community. She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ludwig Lantz and William Lantz; and her sister, Sophie Lantz with whom she resided with for most of her life.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces and great-great-great nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her many friends, especially the staff & residents at Hornell Gardens.
The family of Lucy Lantz will receive friends on Sunday (today) from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. Funeral & committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4:00 PM with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Final interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell, NY.
Lucy’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in her name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

Yolanda Patricia Chirgwin Hogan, age 99, and a resident of Hornell, NY for over 70 years, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2021 with family members at her side. She was a shining light in the world.
Cynthia R. “Cindy” Gallese – 68 – of 24 Pardee St., Hornell, died early Wednesday evening (February 3, 2021) at St. James Hospital, following a brave and courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
William “Bill” Bobownik – (98) – of 23 Hart St., Hornell, died Saturday morning (January 30, 2021) at the Vincent House in Wayland where he resided for the past three months.
Nancy J. Curran – 73 – of 23 Crosby St., Hornell, died early Saturday morning (January 30, 2021) at her home, following a long illness.
William T. “Bill” Pryor – 89 – of 1071 Sharps Hill Road, Arkport, died Thursday evening (January 28, 2021) at his home, following a long illness.
Jeffrey L. “Witt” White – 66 – of 202 Spring Meadow Apartments, Bath, died Sunday afternoon (January 24, 2021) at Corning Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
