Robert F. Giles

Robert F. “Bob” Giles – 71 – of Gibbs St., Rochester, died early Saturday morning (October 8, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.

Born in Rochester on December 6, 1950, he was the son of Richard & Katherine (Bay) Giles.

Bob grew up in Rochester and was a graduate of St. Bernard’s Seminary High School (class of 1968).  He later attended St. John Fisher College.

In his younger years, Bob was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church where he served as an Altar Boy and later played guitar in the Church Folk Group.  A self-proclaimed “Hippie,” he enjoyed listening to Folk Rock, Jazz, and R&B music.  He also enjoyed rooting for the Raiders (NFL).

He retired as a claims adjuster for the New York State Insurance Fund of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Katherine Giles.

Survived by his aunt, Olga Brutsman of Andover; several cousins; along with many friends.  He will also be sadly missed by his “2nd Family” at Salinger’s Tavern.

At Bob’s request there will be no calling hours.  A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Salinger’s, 107 East Ave., Rochester, NY on Sunday October 23 at 4:00 PM.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

Bob’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY  13790.
