Charles F. Bacon

Charles F. “Charlie” Bacon – 67– of 174 East Ave., Hornell, died early this morning (Monday, April 18, 2011) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on October 3, 1943, he was the son of George & Mildred (Hann) Bacon.

Charlie attended Hornell High School and later earned his General Education Diploma (GED).  For several years he was employed as a carpenter & “roofer” for a local roofing company.  For over 20 years Charlie worked as a “Over The Road” (OTR) Truck Driver for several tricking companies, including John Giles Tricking, Fiamingo Moving & Storage and M.S. Carriers.  He primarily served the East Coast.

He had been a member of the Hornell IOOF and a booster member of the Hornell VFW.  He enjoyed hunting & fishing and also enjoyed watching NFL games and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.Charlie was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jeffery Bacon and Bobby Bacon; 1 daughter, Maria Welch; his sister-in-law, Sharon Bacon.

He was married on August 11, 1985 to the former Deborah “Debbie” Jones who survives.  Also surviving are 1 daughter, Lisa Adkins of Rochester; 2 sons, Charles Bacon of Hornell and Daniel (Sally) Bacon of Hornell; his mother, Mildred “Millie” Bacon of Hornell; 7 Brothers, William (Carol) Bacon of Hornell, James Bacon of Hornell, Roy (Debbie) Bacon of Addison, Larry (Diane) Bacon of Hornell, Richard (Donna) Bacon of Hornell, Ronald (Wanda) Bacon of Corning and Philip (Joanie) Bacon of Corning; 1 sister, Elaine Bacon of Smoking Dam, PA; 13 grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

The family of Charles F. “Charlie” Bacon will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.   A Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 1:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

Memorial contributions in Charlie’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

    THE BACONS LIVED AROUND THE CORNER FROM US ON SOUTH ST.I GOT TO KNOW ALL OF THE BACONS AND WAS A FRIEND TO ALL.TIME HAS PASSED BUT MY MEMORIES OF CHUCK AND ALL OF THE BACONS WILL BE IN MY HEART FOR ALWAYS.

    first i wanted to say is thank you to everyone. I may of not been there for you in your time of need dad but I love you. You showed me many different thing in my life that i will take on and use for the rest of my life. when i was in 9th grade playing on the jv baseball team for hornell i played my best when i knew you were in the stands watching me play the game. it felt like i had to do my best to prove myself to you but now i understand that love me for who i was even thou you wanted the best of me. we had our ups and downs thou our short time together but i learned so much from you I LOVE YOU DAD
