Julia A. “Judy” Rechichi – (79) – of 19 Blaine St., Hornell died Saturday morning (April 9, 2022) at St. James Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Wellsville, NY on October 2, 1942, she was the daughter of Laurence & Helen (Vickers) Padden.

Judy grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School until her sophomore year when her family moved to Elmira, NY.  She graduated from Elmira Free Academy (class of 1960) and moved back to Hornell in 1961.

She was married on November 18, 1961 to John R. Rechichi who died December 4, 2004.

Judy had been employed for about two years at the lunch counter at the former Cards Drug Store and later as a secretary for about five years at Stern & Stern Textile in Hornell.  For about  25 years, Judy served as manager of the former Milbrook Store which later became Stroehman’s Store in Hornell, retiring in 2002.

For many years, Judy and John spent the winter months in Haines City, FL and enjoyed living in Hornell the rest of the year.  She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where for several years she sang with the St. Ann’s Choir.  He had been a member of the Hornell Association, the Hornell Moose Lodge, the Hornell American Legion and the Hornell VFW.

In addition to her husband, Judy was preceded in death by her infant sister, Mary Catherine Padden.

Surviving are her 2 sons, David (Yvette) Rechichi of Buffalo and Donald Rechichi of Hornell; 3 brothers, George (Marilyn) Padden of Hornell, Larry (Kay) Padden of Canisteo and Francis Padden of Hornell; 3 sisters, Madelyn Dugo of Hornell, Helen (John) Schwartz of Horseheads and Monica (Donald) Nenno of South Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Michael Rechichi and Rachel Rechichi; several nieces & nephews.

At Judy’s request there will be no calling hours.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday (April 21, 2022) at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with final interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Duane E. Ball – 81 – of Pine Knoll Park, Arkport, died early Saturday morning (April 2, 2022) at his home, following a long illness.

Born in Willing, NY on June 13, 1940, he was the son of Frank & Marietta (Hall) Ball.

Duane grew up in Corfu, NY and was a graduate of Corfu High School (class of 1958).  He was a graduate of Alfred State College where he majored in Agriculture.  Duane later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and receiving his Master’s Degree in Education from Cornell University.

For 32 years, Duane served as a teacher at Canisteo Central School, teaching Agriculture, Shop Class & Computer Technology.  He retired in 1995.

Following his retirement, Duane & his wife, Jean, moved to Rogersville, TN where they resided for about 25 years before moving back to the area about two months ago.

Duane was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Shirley Leffel and Irene Mech; 2 brothers, Frank Ball JR and Rex Ball.

He was married on July 15, 1961 (60 years) to the former Jean VanHall who survives.  Also surviving are 2 daughters, Lynda (Charles) Drum of Dansville and Sharon (Steve) Crandall of Hartsville; 3 brothers, Roy (Nancy) Ball, David (Jeanne) Ball and Doug Ball; 3 grandchildren, Alisha Searles, Katie Fetzner & Anthony Drum; several nieces & nephews.

James T. “Jim” Marsh – 67 – of 27 Sawyer St., Hornell, died early Thursday morning (March 31, 2022) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 9, 1954, he was the son of Frank & Marcia (Clark) Marsh.

Jim grew up in Philadelphia and was a graduate of George Washington High School (class of 1972).  He later attended Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA.

He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving his country from 1974 – 1976.  While in the Navy, he was stationed primarily in San Francisco, CA.

Jim resided in the Elmira area for several years and has lived in the Hornell area for the past 15 years.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Frank (Sheree) Marsh of Bensalem, PA and Patrick (Therese) Marsh of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces & nephews.

Douglas Alan “Doug” George – 59 – formerly of Hornell, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Silver Lake Hospital in Newark, NJ following a long illness.

Born in Canandaigua, NY on December 30, 1962, he was the son of Warren & Melva (Ridall) George.

Doug grew up in South Dansville and was a graduate of Dansville High School (class of 1981).  Following high school, he graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute where he majored in Travel & Tourism.  He later attended Alfred State College where he majored in Human Services.

For many years, Doug was employed at Steuben ARC as a Supervisor at the East Main St. residence. Known in his family for being very “unintentionally funny” and sassy, Doug also enjoyed making crafts, something that he passed on to his youngest daughter. He had a deep love of nature and enjoyed camping and gardening (both flower & vegetable). He enjoyed eating any sweets he could get his hands on, his favorite being “cherry cream cheese pie”, and “icebox cake”.  He also had a fondness for animals and throughout the years had many canine companions, notably his dogs “Gracie”, and “Wittle Boy”. Until the time of his passing, Doug had lived with his oldest daughter who took care of him the last couple years of his life, and together they watched many television shows.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Warren George; 2 brothers, Jeff George and Rob George.

Surviving are his former wife and close friend, Mary George of Hornell; 2 daughters, Megan (Brian Doty) George of Hornell and Laura (Eric Kepner) George of Hornell; his mother, Melva George of South Dansville; 1 brother, Dale (Sheila) George of Dansville; 1 sister, Lori (Steve) Herring of South Dansville; 7 grandchildren, Lexine O’Brien, Daxton O’Brien, Norma Jean Wachter, Aubrey Kepner, Liam Kepner, Rebel Kepner & Emery Kepner  with one granddaughter “On The Way”; several nieces & nephews.

Mary E. Bossard – 86 – of 7685 Reservoir Road, Hornell, NY (Town of Fremont) died peacefully Saturday morning (March 26, 2022) at her home after a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on December 17, 1935, she was the daughter of Joseph & Pauline (Renwand) Dixon, and step-daughter of Nealon White.

Mary grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School.  She had been employed for a time as a sales associate at JC Penney of Hornell and also as an aid in the Physical Therapy Department of St. James Mercy Hospital.  However, Mary was most proud of her lifelong job as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family.

In her younger years (along with her husband, Glen) Mary enjoyed snowmobiling, 3-wheeling, gardening, and other outdoor pursuits.  Together, they made frequent trips to favorite vacation stops in Niagara Falls, the Adirondacks, and to Amish Country in Pennsylvania and Ohio. They also loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees.  Mary enjoyed playing poker & euchre with her friends and was a member of a local card club.  She thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, cooking & baking—especially delicious pies, zucchini & banana bread, and a variety of cookies.

Mary was married on January 25, 1953 to Glen A. Bossard who died January 7, 2016.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Steven “Boz” Bossard (died 2002); her daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Bossard (died 2006); her daughter-in-law, Julie Bossard; her step-sister, Linda Warczok; 2 brothers-in-law, Dick Curran and Stanley Shepard; and her niece, Chrissy (Curran) McDaniel.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara “Barb” (Ron) Hilsdorf of Fremont; 2 sons, Richard “Dick” (Nancy) Bossard of Almond and Brett (Kerry) Bossard of Ithaca; 2 sisters, Joanne Curran of Hornell and Jean Shepard of Hornell; 1 step-brother, Bill White; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Marjorie J. “Marge” Burger, 91, of 57 Washington Street, Hornell, NY, passed away on March 25, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Marge was born in Lark Harbour, Newfoundland on January 6, 1931 to Clarence and Mary (Moss) Starkes. Her father passed away when she was just six months old.  After that she was raised by her grandparents George and Dorcas (House) Moss in Daniel’s Harbour, Newfoundland.  At the age of 16, she emigrated by herself to Brooklyn, NY to live with her aunt, Marjorie Moss.  She became a naturalized U.S. citizen on November 11, 1954.

While visiting family in Andover in early 1955, Marge’s cousins convinced her to go on a blind date with one of their friends.  The date started with bowling in Wellsville, then dancing at Lake Demons and ended the next morning with breakfast in Buffalo because they were having so much fun and didn’t want the night to end.  That was the night she met Robert “Bob” Burger, who she married on November 26, 1955.

During her eight years in Brooklyn she worked as a nanny, at an insurance office and then at the jewelry counter at Abraham & Straus.  After marrying Bob and moving to Hornell she worked as a cook at both Billy Schu’s Food Bar and Hornell Gardens Nursing Facility followed by the cosmetic counter at Tuttle & Rockwell Co. as the “Estee Lauder Lady.”  In later years she worked alongside her husband, who owned and operated Rural TV Cable serving residents of Greenwood and Canaseraga.

For over 60 years, Marge was a very active member of Christ Episcopal Church, including serving as Head of the Altar Guild.  She enjoyed spending time gardening and bringing plants back to life, lunches with the “Trust Group,” spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren, sneaking handfuls of treats to her “furry” grandchildren, knitting beautiful afghans, swim classes at the YMCA and babysitting local children.

She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Bob, who passed away on November 23, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Tommy Vondracek, Jr.; and her siblings, Evelyn Talefich, Clarence Starkes, Arthur Stares and Mary Jeffries.

Surviving are two sons, John (Pamela) Burger of Mohnton, PA and William (Mary) Burger of Livonia, NY; one daughter, Sheila (Thom) Vondracek of Hornell, NY; six grandchildren George, Erin, Robert (Jennifer), Matthew (Whitney), Daniel (Stephanie) and Aaron (Jacqueline); 13 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Lily, Logan, Oliver, Blake, Claire, Breana, Brooklynn, Cora, Quinn, Elouise, Arthur and Ellie. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Jim Appier; one sister-in-law, Kathy Burger; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family of Marge will receive friends on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 4:00 PM   –   7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church Street, Hornell, NY.  A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church of Hornell with Fr. Sally-Jo Lamberson – 70 – of 313 North 15^th Street, Olean, was called to Heaven Wednesday afternoon (March 16^th 2022) at Buffalo General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Norwich, NY on February 28, 1952, she was the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Katherine “Kate” (Beliles) Lamberson.

Sally-Jo grew up in Allegany, NY and was a graduate of Allegany Central School (class of 1970).  Throughout the years she had been employed as a cashier and sales clerk for several businesses, including Odds & Ends in Olean and Hills’ Department Store in Olean.

Sally had unwavering faith and love for God and her family.  She enjoyed baking.  She also had a deep love of poetry and had several poems published.  Sally-Jo’s favorite times were simply spending time with her family, especially her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob & Kate Lamberson; her infant brother, Joseph Lamberson; her sister, Bobbie-Kay Mikolajczyk; her brother-in-law, Steve Mikolajczyk; her brother, Richard “Rick” Lamberson; and her niece, Erica Lamberson.

Surviving are her sister & best friend, George-Ann Lamberson of Olean; her brother, John (Lori) Lamberson of Cuba, NY; her sister-in-law, Elaine Lamberson of Allegany; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Molly Dagon Andolina – 65 – of 24 Meadowbrook Rd., Arkport, died on Tuesday, March 15 following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on June 8, 1956, she was the daughter of Jim & Marieka “Rickey” (Plianos) Dagon.

Molly grew up in Hornell, attended St. Ann’s School then graduated from the Hornell High School (class of 1974).  Following her graduation, she attended Alfred State College and Simmons School of Embalming & Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY, obtaining her funeral director’s license upon graduation in 1976.

She began her career at Chase Funeral Home in Binghamton and spent 10 years actively in the operation of the Dagon Funeral Home in Hornell, working alongside her father & brother.  Molly was later employed by The Village of Arkport as an assistant clerk.

Molly was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.   She was also a member of the Arkport American Legion Auxiliary, the Hornell Association, and the G. Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy).  She was heavily involved with Arkport Junior Baseball where she enjoyed cheering on her kids and volunteering her time organizing and managing the concessions.

Molly always served as “The Neighborhood Mother,” welcoming all of her children’s friends who would come over to swim, play basketball and other sports, or to simply “hang out.”  Parents were always comfortable with their children going to the Andolina House, as Molly always took care of them as her own.

She (along with the entire Andolina family) was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.  As a loving mother, she always enjoyed attending her children’s sporting and school events.  She and her husband “adopted” their teams which later included the Alfred University Men’s Basketball team during four years when their son Nick was a member.  In recent years, she loved spending time during the winter in Southern Florida with her husband to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine.

Molly was a friend to anyone she met and all who knew her loved her.   Her amazing personality and endless sense of humor lightened up every room.  She treated everyone as if they were family or her best friend.  She will surely be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim & Rickey Dagon; her daughter, Jillian “Jill” Andolina (2013); her niece, Sara Dagon (2019); her brother in law, Larry Clark (2017).

Molly was married in St. Ann’s Church on August 20, 1982 to Dr. Richard “Rick” Andolina who survives.  Also surviving are her 3 sons, Dr. Richard “Rick” Andolina Jr. of Hornell, Dr. Nicholas “Nick” (Jessica) Andolina of Manassas, VA, and Mitchell “Mitch” Andolina of Arkport; 4 sisters, Ellen Dagon of Hornell; Mary Clark of Hornell, Sally (Rich) Head of Hornell and Anne (Rich) Scavo of Hornell; 2 brothers, Jim (Patty) Dagon of Hornell and John (Karen) Dagon of Hornell; 3 grandchildren, Niko, Jillian & Remi; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

Molly’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM  –  5:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Zoey Elizabeth Kays – (21) – of 146 Woodhill Dr., Rochester, formerly of Hornell & Almond, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning (March 13, 2022) at her home.

Born in Hornell on October 12, 2000, she was the daughter of Stacey Zaparzynski & James Kays.

Zoey grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School.  She later graduated from Alfred-Almond Central School (class of 2019).  Following high school graduation, Zoey attended Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) in Canandaigua, NY.

While in high school, she was a member of the HHS Swim Team, competing in the Backstroke, Free Style and was a member of the Relay Team.  Zoey was also a member of the HHS Indore Track Team and the 2015-2016 Varsity Cheerleading Team.  She enjoyed playing Cinderella Softball & YMCA Basketball.

For about 2 years, Zoey resided in Canandaigua, NY and had worked as a cashier for Byrne Dairy and was also employed at St. George Pizzeria.  For the past year she lived in the Rochester area and owned & operated Trixie’s Treats Bakery.

Zoey had a deep appreciation for all music and especially enjoyed listening to singer-songwriter, Lana Del Rey.  She will be remembered for her friendly personality who was not afraid to speak her mind.  You always “knew where you stood” with Zoey!!

Surviving are her mother, Stacey (Will VanScoter) Zaparzynski of Hornell; her father, James “Jim” (Marie) Kays of Angelica; 3 brothers, Tyler (Arlene Wagner) Kays of Hornell, Jonas Kays of Almond and Spencer Rambaran of Caldwell, ID; 1 sister, Kaydence Smith of Hornell; paternal grandparents, Steve & Sue Kays of Almond; maternal grandparents, Ed (Joanna) Zaparzynski of Tucson, AZ and Karen (Dave) Winant of Hornell; maternal great-grandparents, Ed Zaparzynski of North Hornell and Jean Shepard of Hornell; 1 nephew, Stanley Kays of Hornell; many aunts, uncles & cousins.  She will also be sadly missed by her “canine companion, “Kodak”.

Carole (Simpson) Zugnoni McNeil – (80) – of 3741 Catatunk Road, Canisteo, NY, formerly of Hornell, died early Saturday morning (March 12, 2022) at the Vincent House in Wayland, following a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Mazie Simpson; 1 brother, Glenn Simpson, 1 great-granddaughter, Jocelyn O’Heda; her first husband, Charles Zugnoni; her late husband, Thomas McNeil.

Surviving are her brother, Charles (Rose) Simpson, JR; her sister, Nancy Miller; her daughter, Tammy Zugnoni; her granddaughter, April McNeil; great-granddaughters, Skye Pineda & Honesty Pineda, Essy O’Heda; great-grandsons, Jy’Ahmeir Rivera & Emanuel Rivera; friends, Alice Joyce Flohr (sister-in-law), Ricky Vincent, the Zugnoni family; many nieces, nephews & cousins.
