Carol Jean Pascoe – (77) – formerly of 378 Seneca Rd., North Hornell, died Monday afternoon (March 18, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, following a long illness.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born August 6, 1941, and was the daughter of Howard & Marion (Peck) Pascoe.

Carol was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1959).  She had been employed for 55 years in many capacities at WLEA / WCKR Radio stations, retiring in 2014 as Traffic Manager.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  Carol enjoyed drawing, horseback riding, losing her lipstick, watching too many crime shows and, oddly enough — the Bee Gees.

Carol was married on January 19, 1979 to Jim McKay who died January 13, 1980.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Howard Pascoe; 7 sisters, Mary Waight, Francis Stratton, Marcia Gentile, Nancy Emerson, Betsy Joseph, Helen Weyand and Marta Gardner.

Surviving are her son David (Kayla) of Crystal, MN, her grandson, Henry Pascoe; 2 sisters, Alice (Earl) DeRienzo of Canandaigua, NY and Linda Barnes of Clyde, NY.

The family of Carol Jean Pascoe will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Ethel J. Houghtaling – 77 – of 5175 Route 436, Dansville, NY died Monday morning (March 18, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in Austinburg, PA on May 18, 1941, she was the daughter of Wilson & Florence (Giles) Potter.

Ethel grew up in the Hornell – Canisteo area and attended Canisteo Central School.  At the age of 17, she married Merle E. Houghtaling.  Throughout the years, Ethel & Merle resided in several locations, primarily in the New York State / Pennsylvania areas.

She had been employed for a time as a forklift operator at the former A&P Plant in Horseheads and later served as a driver & circulation manager at the Hornell Evening Tribune.  More recently, Ethel was employed as a certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) at the Livingston County Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris, NY.

Ethel enjoyed crocheting and throughout the years made beautiful Afghans which she gave to family members.  She also enjoyed playing video games on the computer & play station.  However, her greatest enjoyment in life was simply spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle E. Houghtaling who died October 8, 2006; her son, Kevin Houghtaling; her daughter, Dawn Marie Houghtaling; her brother, Dwayne Potter; her sister, Barbara Potter.

Surviving are 3 sons, Brian (Carol) Houghtaling of Wellsboro, PA, Richard (Sherri) Houghtaling of East Stroudsburg, PA and Mike (Penny) Houghtaling of Arkport, NY; 1 daughter, Robin (Mark) Newcomb of Dansville; 3 brothers, Harold Potter of Elkland, PA, John (Connie) Potter of Florida and Rocky Potter of Florida; 2 sisters, Eleanor (Alfred) Tombs of Harrison Valley, PA and Belva (Danny) Wilcox of Elmira, NY; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; several nieces & nephews.

James R. “Jim” Rechichi – 75 – a resident of Hornell Gardens, died early Tuesday morning (March 12, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he was taken by Hornell City Ambulance.

Born in Hornell on March 18, 1943, he was the son of Joseph & Teresa (Mahoney) Rechichi.

Raised Catholic, Jim had been a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  Throughoutthe years, he resided in several locations, including Newark, NY, Rochester, and Hornell.

Jim loved music and was an enthusiastic New York Yankee fan.  He also loved collecting model cars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Joseph Rechichi and John Rechichi; his sister, Marie O’Dell; 2 brothers-in-law, Larry Dunn and Francis O’Dell.

Surviving are his sister, Margare Dunn of Arkport; 2 sisters-in-law, Joanne Rechichi Kame of Arkport and Judy Rechichi of Hornell; several nieces & nephews.

There will be no calling hours.  A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Nelson C. “Greg” Gregory Sr. – 88 – of 68 Cheryl Dr., Honeoye, NY died Tuesday morning (March 12, 2019) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, following a long illness.

Born in East Greenbush, NY on November 8, 1930, he was the son of George & Ethel (Knapp) Gregory.

Greg grew up in the Hudson Valley area of New York State, residing primarily in Greenbush, NY.  He lived in the Livonia & Springwater areas for many years and had resided in Honeoye for over 20 years.

For much of his adult life, Greg was employed as a truck driver, driving for many companies, including  Fugle Auto Parts of South Livonia and delivering corn syrup for Sweetener’s Plus in Lakeville.  He also worked as a general farm hand for Wilbur Webb Farm in Lima for many years, finally retiring at the age of 80.

Greg was affectionately known as a “prankster” who enjoyed having a good natured laugh with his friends.  In his younger years he enjoyed small game hunting and in later years loved deer hunting with his son.  Greg enjoyed watching sporting events on TV and loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills.   He never turned down the opportunity to tip a few back and spend quality time with his friends and family that he loved the most.

Greg proudly served his country in the US Navy for nearly 12 years, being honorably discharged in 1960.  During his time of service he spent 4 years in foreign lands and in sea service during the Korean War.  He affectionately spoke of his years of service and was proud to be a member of the Harrison-Lee Post 283 American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his Aunt Libby, who raised him and his late brother, George Gregory.

Survivors include the love of his life, Joan Gregory; his daughter, Lisa (Shane) Gascon of Springwater; his son, Nelson “J.R.” (Jen) Gregory of Wayland; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and nieces & nephews.

Jacquelyn V. “Jackie” Andrews – 93 – of 13 Maplewood Ave., North Hornell, died Sunday afternoon (March 10, 2019) at Elderwood Hornell Nursing Facility, following a long illness.

Born in Jamestown, NY on October 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Elmer & Ann (Cook) Vincent.

Before her 18^th birthday, Jackie actually had resided in 18 different locations, including Olean, Salamanca, Rochester, Alfred and Hornell.  She was a graduate of Monroe High School in Rochester (class of 1943) and later graduated from Rochester Business Institute.  Jackie also lived in Columbus, OH for about 2 years where she was employed at a bank.  She has resided in the Hornell area for the past 70 years.

Jackie was proud to have the title “Stay at Home Mom”, raising her family and taking care of the family home.  She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Hornell and was active in Women’s Bible Study.  She also enjoyed her time as a volunteer at the former Bethesda Hospital.

Jackie was an avid reader.  She was known for her homemade crafts & painting beautiful ceramic figurines and dishes that she gave to family & friends.

Jackie was married on June 16, 1949 to Robert “Bob” Andrews who died in 1998.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Vincent.

Surviving are 2 sons, Robert “Bob” (Kim Foiles) Andrews of Missoula, MT and Richard “Dick” (Lisa Drake) Andrews of Hornell; 2 daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” (Russell) Gills of Virginia Beach, VA and Susan (Stan) Hooker of Hornell; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews. She was a mom to her foreign exchange daughter, Dr. Maria (Mia) Eriksdotter. She also has two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Andrews of Canisteo, and Francis Vincent from Meridith, NH.

Francine Colón – 54 – of Hornell passed away on Friday, March 8^th, 2019 following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in the Bronx on November 11, 1964, she was the daughter of Daniel & Sylvia (Robello) Colón.

Francine grew up in Plattekill, NY and attended Wallkill High School.  She later graduated Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, NY (Class of 1982).  After graduation she attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie where she majored in social work.

She was an accomplished dancer and was employed for many years as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio.  She had also been employed as a fitness coordinator at All Sport Fitness Center in Poughkeepsie.  She resided in Los Angeles, CA for many years and held various jobs from working for a match making service to a sales clerk at Nordstrom Retail Store, was an office manager at Blockbuster, and later as an office administrator.

In 2012 Francine became a resident of Hornell and had been employed for a time at Tractor Supply as a sales clerk. She enjoyed dancing & cooking.

Francine was preceded in death by her father Daniel Colón and her sister Stephanie Feringa. She is survived by her brother, Daniel (Michelle) Colón of Fultonville, NY; her sister, Joyce Colón of Maryland; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

At Francine’s request there will be no calling hours.  Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

James L. “Jim” Bacon – 72 – of 160 East Avenue, Hornell, died Friday afternoon, March 8, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Hornell on August 25, 1946, he was the son of Frederick and Mildred (Hann) Bacon.

Jim grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School.  He enlisted in the US Army in 1964, serving his country for 21 years.  He is a Vietnam Veteran and was stationed in several places around the world, including Vietnam and Germany.  During his years of service, Jim received many awards and decorations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devices, and the Expert Badge (Rifle) Medal.  He retired as Staff Sergeant E6 in 1986.

Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Jim returned to Hornell and began working for John Giles in Arkport as a delivery truck driver.  He retired in 2008.  Since that time, Jim has enjoyed his retirement years watching NASCAR and especially enjoyed rooting for Tony Stewart.

Jim first married the former Sharon (Townsend) Coleman on September 8, 1973.  Years and circumstances pulled them apart, but on April 13, 2002, they were remarried and were fortunate to spend four years together before her death on July 11, 2006.  James was also predeceased by his parents and two brothers, infant Jeff Bacon and Charles Bacon in 2011.

Surviving are his daughter Regina Darrin of Hornell; two sons, James Bacon and Mike (LeeAnn) Bacon; grandchildren, Shelby (Ben) Dewey of Hornell, Bethany (Sean Kellogg) Darrin and Payton Darrin of Hornell, Cheyanne Bacon of Hornell, Mason Drew and Breydon Drew of Hornell, and Jessica & Christopher; his beloved great-granddaughter, Nora Dewey; 6 brothers, William Bacon, Roy (Debbie) Bacon, Ron (Wanda) Bacon, Larry (Diane) Bacon, Richard (Donna) Bacon, Philip (Joan) Bacon; sister, Elaine Bacon; sister-in-law, Debbie Bacon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nancy L. Nisbet – (84) – of 7997 Rose Rd., Hornell (Town of Fremont), died Thursday afternoon (March 7, 2019) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on November 6, 1934, she was the daughter of Ralph & Theresa (Falci) Buono.

Nancy grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1952).  For a time, she was employed in the catalog department of JC Penny’s, primarily during the holiday season.  For about 10 years, Nancy served as Assessor for the Town of Fremont.

She had been a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell and later was a member of the Big Creek Methodist Church.  Nancy enjoyed gardening (both flowers & vegetables) and also enjoyed cooking and was especially fond of processing & cooking the venison for the guys during hunting season.  She was an avid reader and could always be found having a book in her possession wherever she may be.

Nancy was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed rooting for her favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon & Chase Elliott.  She loved the days spent with her family camping, especially attending dirt races on Super Dirt Week at the New York State Fairgrounds.  She also loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees.

In her younger years, when her sons were involved in scouting, Nancy served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was later involved in Boy Scouts of America.  She was extremely proud of the fact that all three of her sons rose to the rank of Eagle Scout.  Nancy was active in Hornell Little League and Hornell Babe Ruth Baseball during the many years that her sons were playing.

She was married on June 28, 1953 to Howard W. Nisbet JR who survives.  Also surviving are three sons, Howard “Howie” (Dorothy) Nisbet III of Hornell, Timothy (Donna Walker) Nisbet of Stokesdale, NC and Doug (Grace) Nisbet of Williamson, NY; 3 sisters, Gloria Griffin of Spanish Fort, AL, Nicoletta “Nikki” McGrosso of Hornell and Kathleen (Skip) Wood of Hornell; 10 grandchildren, Brian Nisbet, Megan (Chris) Dailey, Daniel (Jennifer) Sirianni, Cara (August) Antol, Robert Sirianni, Rikki Nisbet, Patrick Nisbet, Ethan Nisbet, Zachary Nisbet and Christopher (Kari) Bocianski; 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

Sharon M. Bush – (68) – of 7668 State Route 53, Kanona, formerly of Hornell, passed away peacefull Thursday morning (March 7, 2019) at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Corning on June 4, 1950, she was the daughter of Eldon & June (Salvate) Benjamin.

Sharon grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School.  She had been employed as a Nurse’s Aide and Health Care Provider for Sue’s Rest Home of Hornell and Maple Crest Manor of Hornell.

An avid bingo player, Sharon loved traveling to such places as Salamanca, Dansville, Corning, Bath and Hornell to play bingo.  She loved her family and enjoyed hosting an annual Family Reunion at her home where family would come an spend the entire weekend.  A great time was always had by all!  Sharon also loved watching old western movies and old Western TV with a little bit of Family Feud thrown in for good measure.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gloria Valimont and Maryanne Alexander.

Survivors include the love of her life of 25 yrs, Raymond L. Clark of Kanona; 2 daughters, Dawn M. (Gary Day) Gardner of Kanona and Dana L. (Raymond London) Rougex of Hornell; 1 son, Vance N. Gardner, JR of Alfred; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Robert P. “Bob” Gennett – 88 – formerly of 25 Russell St., Canisteo, died Tuesday afternoon (March 5, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility where he had resided for the past 7 months.

Born in Barre, VT on August 9, 1930, he was the son of Lawrence & Violet (Durett) Gennet.

Bob resided most of his life in either Vermont or New York State and had resided in the Hornell – Canisteo area for about 50 years.

Although Bob had no church affiliation, he was a very spiritual man.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf and had been a member of the Canisteo American Legion, the Hornell VFW, the Hornell Moose Lodge, Hornell Eagles Club and the Hornell Association.  He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his friends at Southside Tavern in Hornell.  In his younger days, Bob was a talented boxer and at one time held the title of Featherweight Champion of the Vermont Golden Gloves.

Bob was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Donna Booth who died July 29, 2018.

Surviving are his sister, Doreen Weeks of Vermont; Donna’s children, Eva (William) Boyles of Hammondsport and Hugh (Terry) Booth of Watertown, WI; along with many friends in the Hornell/Canisteo area.
