Robert was born January 27, 1938 and was the son of Richard and Julia (Randall) Stewart.

A native and life resident of Hornell, Bob was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1955).  After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country from 1955 – 1959.

Bob loved dogs and spent most of his adult life training and handling dogs for competition.  He traveled throughout the United States and Canada competing in field trials in the grouse woods and won several national championships.  During the winter months, Bob enjoyed training his dogs in Texas.  He also enjoyed fly fishing at home, as well as in Arizona and New Mexico.  Bob was an avid New York Yankees fan, and he was usually seen wearing his Yankees cap.  However, Bob most enjoyed spending time with family and cheering on his four grandsons at all of their sporting events.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Gary” Stewart.

Robert was married in 1959 to his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol Pomeroy, who survives.  Also surviving are his daughters, Kelly (Michael) Clair of Hornell and Laurie (Scott) Smith of Hornell; four grandsons, Christopher (Samantha) Clair of Canisteo, Kyle (Jessica) Clair of Hornell, Matt Smith and Luke Smith of Hornell; three great-grandchildren, McKenna Clair, and twins Benjamin and Henry Clair; sisters-in-law, Betsy Pomeroy and Margi Pomeroy; several nieces and nephews.
