Mary E. Hollenbeck

Mary Elizabeth Hollenbeck – 94 – of Andover, formerly of Greenwood, died early Saturday morning (October 9, 2010) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Born in the Town of Ward on June 20, 1916, she was the daughter of George & Carrollotta (Corwin) McAndrews.

Mary was a graduate of the former Alfred High School (Class of 1936) and later attended Geneseo Normal School.

She lived in Buffalo for several years where she was employed in the shipping departments at the Dunlop Tire Corporation.  She later resided in Lockport for several years.  While in Buffalo, she met Lloyd S. Hollenbeck.  They were married in 1939.  She has resided in the Alfred, Greenwood & Andover areas since 1948.

Dr. Maurice Rucker

Dr. Maurice Rucker – 79 – of Maple St., Hornell, formerly of Alfred, died Wednesday (September 29, 2010) at McAuley Manor.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 7, 1931, he was the son of Joseph & Julia (Marks) Rucker.

Maurice was a graduate of S.J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Brooklyn College.  He enrolled in New York University where he earned his Master’s Degree and earned his PhD in Economics from Columbia University.

Sharon F. Perkins

Sharon F. Perkins – 67 – of 2221 County Rt. 109 (Turnpike Road) died unexpectedly on Thursday (September 23, 2010) at her home.

Born in Cuba, NY on April 17, 1943, she was the daughter of Gladys (Conrad) Brown.

Sharon grew up in Belfast, NY and was a graduate of Belfast Central School (Class of 1960).  She has resided in the Hornell area for most of her adult life.

She had been employed for a time as a waitress at Pudgies Pizza in Hornell and for many years was employed at Crowley’s Dairy in Arkport, retiring in 1998.

Mary Bobownik

Mary Bobownik – (91) – formerly 23 Hart St., Hornell, died Saturday evening (September 4, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born April 16, 1919, and was the daughter of George & Anna Bobownik.

Arthur J. Burdick

Arthur J. “Art” Burdick – 65 – of 4 Tenth St., Canisteo, died Tuesday morning (August 31, 2010) at his home, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on April 13, 1945, he was the son of Arthur & Teresa (Sullivan) Burdick.

Art was a lifelong resident of the Hornell – Canisteo area and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School (class of 1963).  He was a graduate of SUNY Brockport where he earned his teaching degree and BA Degree in Science.

Lynn M. Mallery

Lynn M.  Mallery – 52 – of 480 Maple City Drive, Hornell, died unexpectedly Monday morning (August 30, 2010) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Born in Wellsville, NY on June 1, 1958, she was the daughter of William & Joreen (Sanzo) Mallery.

Lynn resided in Wellsville in her early years and has lived in Hornell for most of her life.  She was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1976).

Georgia S. Psyhos

Georgia S. Psyhos, 91, formerly of 83 East Washington St., Hornell, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 13, 2010.

Georgia was born on November 28, 1918 in Newark, NY to Nicholas and Katina Scarmoutsos of Koupia, Greece.

When Georgia was 3 or 4 years old the family moved back to Koupia Greece where she spent most of her childhood. Upon returning to America after the war in 1948, she spent her first days back in America living with an uncle in Corning, NY and worked in her uncle’s candy store, located in Watkins Glen, NY.

Josephine M. Fenti

Josephine M. Fenti –  formerly of 1 Sawyer St. Site, Hornell, died Friday morning (August 6, 2010) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided for the past 1½ years.

Born in Detroit, MI on August 14, 1914, she grew up in Italy, returning to the United States at the age of 13, living with her mother, Rose and step-father, Bennie Yarcone.

Josephine was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She had been employed at Birds Eye Frozen Foods in Avon for about 10 years and also worked as a seamstress for a local company.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was a great cook, specializing in homemade pastas.

Anna Di Raimondo

Anna Di Raimondo, 84, of 1190 County Route 66 (Green Acres Trailer Court), Hornell, passed away Saturday evening at McCauley Manor, following a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Santa (Constantino) Puleo.

She grew up in Brooklyn and also lived part of her life in Manhattan.  On July 27, 1946, she married Peter A.
Di Raimondo Sr., five days after Peter was discharged from the Marine Corp.  They returned to Brooklyn to live where she was a member of Sacred Heart Church and later St. Stephens Church.

Joseph L. Conley

Joseph L. “Joe” Conley – 62 – of 155 North Main St., Hornell, died Saturday afternoon (July 31, 2010) at Highland Health Care in Wellsville, where he had resided for the past 2 ½ months.

Born in Gorham, NY on November 13, 1947, he was the son of Melbourne & Olive (Fleishman) Conley.

Joe grew up in Pulteney, NY and attended school in Hammondsport.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country in Vietnam where he was wounded in action and received 6 medals.  While in the Armed Forces, Joe also took several classes in stock control & accounting.
