Joyce L. Macaluso- 84 – formerly of Maple Court Homes, Hornell, died Wednesday morning (April 4, 2018) at Updyke’s Willow Ridge Nursing Facility, where she had resided for the past three years.
Born in Canisteo, NY on March 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Clifford and Madelene (Symonds) Feenaughty.
Joyce grew up in Canisteo and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School (class of 1952). She later earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Geneseo State Teachers College (SUNY Geneseo) and her master’s from University at Buffalo.
She resided in Mt. Morris, NY for over 20 years and for several years had been employed as an English teacher at Nunda Central School and briefly taught history at Mt. Morris High School. For about 10 years, Joyce lived in Depew, NY and served as administrator at a drug & alcohol rehab facility in Buffalo, NY. For about 15 years, she resided in Gallup, New Mexico where she worked as a mental health counselor to the Navajo Indian Nation. She had resided in Hornell for the past 20 years.
Joyce had a deep love & affection for all animals and loved her huskies, greyhounds, and cats. She was adventurous and she had a great sense of humor. She was a “career woman” well before it was common.
She was married to Louis S. “Louie” Macaluso who died February 4, 1978, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Jon Patrick “Pat” Feenaughty of Canisteo, NY, on April 16, 2015.
Surviving are her son, Timothy (Daryl Parks, her “other son”) Macaluso of Rochester; three brothers, Ledale “Dale” (Rosemary) Feenaughty of Bolivar, Lynn (Sharon) Feenaughty of Phoenix, AZ and Gerald (Phyllis) Feenaughty of Savona, NY; along with several nieces & nephews.
The family of Joyce L. Macaluso will receive friends on Saturday (April 14, 2018) from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Joyce’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

John J. “Jack” Emo – (71) – of 5798 County Rt. 68 (Crosby Creek Road), Hornell, died early Sunday morning (April 1, 2018) at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Richard A. “Rich” Argentieri – 79 – of 54 Erie Ave., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (March 29, 2018) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.
Patrick D. “Pat” VanGorden – 58 – of 449 Canisteo St., Hornell died unexpectedly Thursday morning (March 29, 2018) at his home.
Lorraine C. Klann – (92) – of 1190 County Route 66, Hornell, passed peacefully late Friday evening (March 23, 2018) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.
Norman F. Pike – 77 – of 71 Church Street Court, Hornell, died Friday afternoon (March 23, 2018) at Elderwood of Hornell Nursing Facility, following a brief illness.
Clarence Van Coombs – 86 – of 21 Armory Place, Hornell, died early Thursday morning (March 22, 2018) at Elderwood of Hornell Nursing Facility, following a brief illness.
Ellen L. Criss – (82) – formerly of 110 Elizabeth St., Hornell, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Hornell Gardens, where she had resided for the past three months.
Richard J. “Rick” Detter – 67 – of 480 Maple City Drive, Hornell, NY died unexpectedly on Tuesday (March 20, 2018) at his home.
