William W. “Bill” Humbert – 64 – of 4217 Cook Road, Woodhull, NY died Tuesday (June 18, 2024) at St. James Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Uniontown, PA on November 25, 1959, he was the second son of Albert & Gladys (Bryson) Humbert.

In his younger years, Bill lived in Uniontown, PA, Cleveland, OH, and later resided in Levittown, PA, where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School (later to become Harry S. Truman High School).

He was a Veteran of the US Army and throughout the years resided in several locations, including Uniontown, Pa, Levittown, PA, Cleveland, OH, Mansfield, PA, St. Petersburg, FL and has lived in Woodhull for the past three years.

Over the years, Bill worked as an assistant carpenter and laborer throughout Pennsylvania, Florida and New York State and also worked as a general farm hand. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, who loved fishing in the ocean, lakes as well as streams.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys L. Humbert of St. Petersburg, who died in March of 2001.

Surviving are his father, Albert M. Humbert, step-mother, Carol Humbert of South Mills, NC; his siblings, Albert G. Humbert of St. Petersburg, FL, Cynthia (Jeff) Kennedy of Columbia Crossroads, PA, Harry (Annette) Humbert of Grovetown, GA, Diane (Richard) Davies of Virginia Beach, VA, Carl (Lisa) Humbert of Seminole, FL and Dale Humbert of St. Petersburg, FL; along with several nieces & nephews.

Ava LeeAnne Nichols, precious baby girl of Ryan & Savanah (Hess) Nichols of Hornell, was born into the “Arms of the Angels” on Thursday (June 13, 2024) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY.

Our loss was Heaven’s gain and even though Ava never spent any time with us here on earth, she was loved, cherished and touched all of our lives. Our little Angel will live forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

She is being greeted at the Gates of Heaven by her paternal grandfather, Jerry Nichols; paternal great-grandmother, Linda Kerr; maternal great-great-grandfather, James “Wayne” Powers.

John R. Curtis – 50 – of 64083 State Route 415, Avoca, NY died unexpectedly on Saturday (June 1, 2024) at his home.

Born in Auburn on August 8, 1973, he was the son of John & Patricia (Rawson) Curtis.

John was a graduate of Union Springs Central School and later received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Cortland, majoring in political science. He has resided in the Bath / Avoca area for the past 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Curtis.

Surviving are his mother, Patricia Curtis of Cayuga, NY; 2 sisters, Mellissa “Missy” (Kyle) Quick of Auburn and Rebecca “Becky” Curtis of Cato, NY; along with several nieces & nephews.

Sally Marie Goodman – 33 – of 31 Taylor St., Hornell died unexpectedly on Saturday (June 1, 2024).

Born in Urbana on April 19, 1991, she was the daughter of Ron Proctor & Rita Stuart.

Sally grew up in Bath, NY and attended Haverling High School. She later took part in the Haverling BOCES Program.

A resident of Hornell for the past 10 years, Sally was an avid reader and would read “anything & everything.” She also had a deep love & affection for animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ron Proctor & Rita Stuart; her grandparents, Herbert & Ruth Stuart and Thomas & Mary Proctor.

Surviving are her husband of Bath; 3 children, Mialee, Jaxon & Rita; 2 brothers, Brent (Samantha) Proctor & Christopher Proctor; several cousins including Bill & Cindy Proctor; her dear friend & companion, Roy Jones; along with other relatives & friends.

Mary Theresa Losecco – (97) – formerly of 44 East Main St., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (May 30, 2024) at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Facility in Wellsville, NY where she resided for the past two years.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born September 14, 1926 and was the daughter of Anthony & Josephine (Marino) Losecco.

Mary attended St. Ann School and later attended Hornell High School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s church.

She had been employed as a “vegetable sorter” at Birdseye Corporation in Mt. Morris and later worked as a “cutter” at the former Marion Rohr Corporation in Hornell. For many years she served as a volunteer at St. James Hospital, the Hornell Senior Center and was also an RSVP volunteer. She enjoyed spending countless hours working on puzzles.

Mary was preceded in death by 3 brothers Salvatore “Toddy” Losecco, Frank Losecco and Anthony Losecco; 4 sisters, Julia Scheira, Felecia Losecco, Annie Messina and Eva Armetta.

Surviving are many nieces & nephews.

At Mary’s request there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday (June 7, 2024) at 12:00 Noon at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Final interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mark A. Finch – 65 – of 105 Geneva St., Bath, NY died Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Born in Rochester on January 31, 1959, he was the son of T. Richard & Patricia (Barnhart) Finch.

Mark grew up in New Jersey and was a graduate of Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, NJ. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country form September, 1977 – November, 1979.

For most of his adult life, Mark worked in the field of general construction. Throughout the years he resided in several locations, including New Jersey, Hammondsport, Michigan, Yonkers and has lived in the Bath area for the past four years.

He was married in 1988 to the former Rebecca “Becca” Saltsman who died in 2019 and was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his two children, Alex Clark and Harley Finch; his brother, Scott (Patricia) Finch of Hornell; along with other extended family.

Arlene L. Howe – 75 – of Portland, MI, formerly of Hornell, passed away peacefully at the Niche Assisted Living Facility of Clare, MI.

Born in Corning, NY on February 29, 1948, she was the daughter of Richard & Virginia (Hollar) Schaumberg.

Arlene was a lifelong resident of Hornell, N.Y. before moving to Portland, MI. in 2018 to be closer to her family. She was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1967).

She was united in marriage to Lewis Howe in 1968, and together they enjoyed thirty-seven years of marriage until the time of Lewis’ passing on August 24, 2005.

While living in Hornell, Arlene was employed at McDonald’s Restaurant for about 5 years; served as a nurse’s aide at the Hornell Gardens Nursing Facility for 10 years; as well as a cashier at Wal-Mart. However she took her greatest pride in her role as a homemaker for her family.

Arlene enjoyed crocheting and baking (especially her famous raisin bread) and she was an avid collector of antique porcelain dolls and other “Knick-Knacks.” She had a love for all animals, but those that knew her best, knew her greatest love of all was time spent with her sons and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Howe, her parents Richard and Virginia Schaumberg, sister in-law Jennifer Luther, her in-laws Jenny and Paul Warriner, and Dan and Ruth King.

Arlene is survived by her two sons John (Yvette) Howe of Portland, MI. and Paul Howe of East Butler, PA; her grandchildren Brittney, Kailyn, Logan, Brendan, Tyler, Cheyenne, Alyssa, and Nicholas. Other survivors include her brothers-in-law Donald (Patty) Howe and Leo Luther; sisters-in-law Margaret (David) Kashorck, Rita Smith, and Denise (Robert) Whitney; and several nieces and nephews.

At Arlene’s request there were no calling hours. A private graveside service was held at the Hornell-Rural Cemetery.

Penelope M. “Penney” Worth – 75 – of Whitney Valley Road, Almond, died Friday afternoon (May 24, 2024) at her home.

Born in Braddock, PA on June 4, 1948, she was the daughter of Philip & Jewel (Vaskevich) Smith. She has resided in the Almond area for over 35 years.

Penney was married to Ronald Worth who died in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Vlasty.

Surviving are her son, Christopher (Michele) Worth of Almond; 1 brother, Rev. Lawrence Smith of Pittsburg, PA; 1 grandson, Wyatt Worth of Almond; several nieces & nephews.

Clifford W. “Cliff” Grover – 93 – formerly of Arkport, and also Rock Fall, Connecticut, died early Tuesday morning (May 21, 2024) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility where he had resided for the past three years.

Born in Middletown, CT on April 9, 1931, he was the son of Clifford H. and Frances (Ennis) Grover.

Cliff grew up in Rocky Hill, CT and attended Weathersfield High School (Class of 1949). He was a star athlete, excelling on the baseball diamond as a pitcher and actually played in the minor leagues. Cliff enlisting in the United States Navy in 1952. He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1954.

Following his discharge from the US Navy, Cliff returned Rocky Hill and began working at Pratt & Whitney as a Metallurgical Engineer where he spent most of his career. For a short period of time, he was employed at the Electric Boat in New London, CT, but returned to Pratt & Whitney in 1967 where he stayed until he retired in 1993. He resided in the Rocky Hill / Rock Fall area most of his life until relocating to Arkport in 2015.

A true outdoorsman, Cliff (known by close friends & family as “The Big Red Dog”) enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially hunting white tail deer in Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. He also loved gardening and was a lifelong New York Yankees, New York Giants, & UConn basketball fan. In his younger years, Cliff enjoyed playing golf & bowling and had been a member of several bowling leagues.

While living in Connecticut, Cliff was a communicant of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Kensington. More recently, he had been a member of St. Mary’s Church in Canaseraga, NY.

Cliff was married to the former Winifred Antoinette Aubin who died October 22, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lorrie Duke, on March 29, 2017.

Surviving are two daughters, Kim (Chris) Ogorzalek of Arkport; Wendy Darling of Virginia and grandchildren, Cassie Hill, Garrett Cerniglia, Spencer Duke and Sydney Duke; son-in-law, Stan Duke; great-granddaughter, June Hill; along with many nieces, nephews, & cousins.

At Cliff’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday (May 28th, 2024) at 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Father John Cullen officiating. Burial with will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Rocky Hill, CT on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 12:00 Noon.

Darlene M. Harrison – 63 – of 139 Wall St., Corning, NY, died Sunday morning (May 12, 2024) at her home, following a long illness.

A native & lifelong resident of Corning, Darlene served as a “Lunch Lady” for the Corning School District for several years. For about 10 years she was employed in the housekeeping department of the Super 8 Motel in Corning and for about 22 years worked in the housekeeping department of the Radisson Hotel in Corning, retiring about 3 years ago.

Darlene enjoyed listening to Country Music and spending time working in her flower garden. She was a talented artist and loved painting “garden statues” and other ornaments. She also enjoyed her time camping at Sunflower Acres Campground in Addison, NY.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Harrison and her infant brother, Alan Joe Harrison.

Surviving are her longtime companion, Leigh Shaefer; her son, Dana Andrews of Corning; her daughter, Dolly McIntyre of Corning; her mother, Dorothy Taylor of Corning; 3 brothers, Randy (Inez) Harrison of Corning, Harry (Samantha) Harrison of Watkins Glen & Timmy Harrison of Corning; 2 sisters, Debbie Boissonneault of Corning and Rosie (Bruce) Watson of Corning; 5 grandchildren, Seth Andrews, Isaac Andrews, kloey Andrews, Martin McIntyre and Maggie McIntyre; several nieces & nephews.
