Florence (Johnson) Egger

Florence R. “Fabulous Flo” Egger – 92 – of Boulder, CO, formerly of Hornell died August 9th, 2013 at her home in Boulder.

Born in Bradford, PA on February 19, 1921, she was the daughter of Hugh & Florence (Disney) Johnson.

Florence grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1939).  She had been employed in the meat department of the former Loblaw’s Grocery Store in Hornell and later as a secretary at Alfred State College.  She retired in 1984 and shortly thereafter moved to Colorado.

While in Hornell, Flo was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of both St. Ignatius Loyola Church and St. Ann’s Church.  She enjoyed reading and cooking. 

She was married on March 14, 1942 to Gerald “Jerry” Egger who died March 28, 1954.  Flo was also preceded in death by her son, Gerald Egger JR; 4 brothers, Francis Johnson, Robert Johnson, Fred Johnson & Leo Johnson; 4 sisters, Eileen Johnson, Elizabeth Newman, Almeda Perkins & Stella Smith.

Surviving are 1 son, Jan (JoAnne Leegant) Egger of Rochester; 1 daughter, Michelle (Michael) Krell of Boulder, CO; 1 brother, William “Bill” Johnson of Hornell; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews.

At Florence’s request there will be no prior calling hours.  Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church. 

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.
 
In lieu of flowers, Florence’s family requests that everyone enjoy a good bottle of wine while remembering the good times spent with her.

Arlene Flora Egle

Arlene Flora Egle – (71) – of 1426 Eisman Rd., Arkport (Town of Fremont) died Friday afternoon (September 20, 2013) at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Oneida, NY on October 27, 1941, she was the daughter of Donald & Flora (Harvey) Church of Morrisville, NY.

She was married in Cazenovia, NY on September 19, 1964 to Donald Egle who survives.

Arlene graduated from Morrisville-Eaton Central School in 1959 and Delhi State College in 1961.  From 1961-1964 she was employed at General Electric Corporation in Syracuse.  For about 2 years, she worked as office personnel at a chiropractor’s office and 2 years as a dairy milker for a local farmer.  For a period of 35 years, Arlene and her husband, Donald raised beef & dairy replacements.

For many years Arlene attended St. Ignatius Loyola Church.  More recently she was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.

Donald R. “Don” Marlatt

Donald R. “Don” Marlatt – 80 – of 81 North Church St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Thursday evening (September 19, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been taken by city ambulance after being stricken at home.

Born in Canisteo on September 8, 1933, he was the son of Elwin & Rachel (Burchard) Marlatt.

Don grew up in Canisteo and attended Canisteo Central School.  He later served his country as a member of the US Air Force. 

A resident of Hornell for most of his adult life, Don served several years as a firefighter for the Hornell Fire Department.  He worked for several years at the former Marion Rohr Corporation and for 22 years was employed at Foster-Wheeler Corporation in Dansville, retiring in 1995 as a clerk.

Anne M. Crandall

Anne M. Crandall – (89) – of 385 Fairview Ave., Hornell, died early Wednesday morning (September 18, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

 Born in Pittston, PA on May 17, 1924, she was the daughter of William & Beatrice (Flynn) Arvidson.  She has resided in Hornell since the age of five.

 Anne grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1943).  Throughout the years she had been employed as a sales clerk at Tuttle & Rockwell Department Store, Triangle Shoe Store and JC Penny’s.  For 11 years she worked in the “communication’s department” of St. James Mercy Hospital, arranging for patients television & telephone hook-ups. 

 She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She also was a member on the St. James Hospital Auxiliary. 

Carolyn M. Ahearn

Carolyn M. Ahearn – 85 – of 6460 County Rt. 15, (Knight Settlement Rd.) Bath, NY, died Monday afternoon (September 16, 2013) at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on June 21, 1928, she was the daughter of Carson & Bertha (Trask) Doorley.

Carolyn grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1946).  For several years she was employed as an operator for New York Telephone Company and later as a sales clerk for Sears & Roebuck in Hornell.  For over 20 years she worked at SKF Industries in Hornell, retiring as a purchasing agent.

She was married on June 21, 1969 to Joseph Ahearn who survives.  Together they resided many years on the Big Creek Road in Hornell and have lived in the Bath area for the past 15 years.  For over 20 years they owned & operated a horse farm, raising riding horses and draft horses.

Albert “Big Al” Arnink

Albert W. “Big Al” Arnink  SR  – 57 – of 2014 Big Creek Road, Hornell died early Tuesday morning (August 13, 2013) at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Port Chester, NY on November 14, 1955, he was the son of Thomas & Rosemary Arnink.

Big Al grew up in Stamford, CT and Norwalk, CT and was a graduate of Norwalk High School.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country during the Viet Nam era.

A resident of the Hornell area for over 25 years, he was employed for about 15 years as a mechanic at M-K Corporation in Hornell.  As a gifted mechanic, Albert enjoyed working on and rebuilding cars —especially vintage Volt wagons. 

Clifford “Cliffy” George

Clifford A. “Cliffy” George, age 2,  of 7492 Donnelly Road, Almond, NY, died Wednesday afternoon (August 7, 2013) at St. James Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance after being ill at home.

Born in Hornell on April 8, 2011, he was the son of Andrew & Heather (Richards) George.

Although he was only on this earth for a short time, Cliffy touched the hearts of everyone.  He had an infectious smile and laugh.  Cliffy was “easy going” and loved playing with his toy cars and drums.  He will always be loved — he will never be forgotten — and he will be sadly missed by his family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John George.

Dorothy “Dot” Treahy

Dorothy W. “Dot” Treahy – 89 – formerly of Sawyer St., died Wednesday morning (August 7, 2013) at McAuley Manor, where she had resided for the 1 ½ years.

Born in Hornell on December 19, 1923, she was the daughter of Carl & Irene (Almy) Whitman.

Dot grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1941).  She was employed for over 25 years at the former New York Telephone Company, originally as a switchboard operator and later working in the business office.

She had a deep affection for animals and throughout the years loved & cared for several pet dogs.  She also enjoyed playing bingo; going to the movies; and attending concerts on the Broadway Mall.  In her younger years, Dot enjoyed spending time at Silver Lake.

Joseph R. Argentieri

Joseph R. “Joe” Argentieri – 91 – of 158 Sutherby Ave., Hornell, died Friday afternoon (July 19, 2013) at his home, following a slight disagreement with “Old Age”.

A native & life resident of Hornell, he was born March 19, 1922 and was the son of Stephen & Martha (Gallese) Argentieri.

Joe was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School.  Following high school, Joe attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester.

For over 30 years, Joe was employed at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in many capacities, primarily in the soil’s department. 

Joe had a deep love of music and was an accomplished trumpet player.  Through the years he performed with many musicians and many bands, including the Joe Argentieri Band, Andy Grillo Orchestra, Press White Orchestra, The Versitones, Custer’s Last Band and Joe Argentieri & Friends.  He was still performing three years ago when he was 88 years young!

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where he served as an usher for many years.  He was also a former member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus.

Linda M. Halbert

Linda M. Halbert – 59 – of 51 West Ave., Arkport, died early Wednesday morning (July 10, 2013) at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on August 1, 1953, and was the daughter of Jason & Evelyn (Silsby) Coddington.

Linda was a lifelong resident of the Arkport / Canaseraga area and attended school in Canaseraga.  For about 10 years, she was employed as a bartender at the Hornell Bowl.  She was an avid bowler and bowled in a ladies league on Wednesdays and a mixed league on Sundays.  Her true joy in life, however, was simply spending quality time with her family.

She was married on May 23, 1970 to Robert P. Seeley JR who died in an automobile accident on June 7, 1970, two weeks after their wedding.
